What happens here
This project details the process of retrieving a 1995 GMC Suburban, affectionately dubbed 'Uncle George,' that has been sitting for years. The goal is to get it running, make it roadworthy, and drive it cross-country for a major engine upgrade. The process involves initial diagnostics, battery replacement, fuel system cleaning, addressing basic maintenance for a long trip, and on-the-road troubleshooting to ensure a successful journey.

(19,999 characters)[Music] it feels like it's right there it tried to so get this it actually runs worse now you suck you ever get yourself into a situation where you inadvertently create your own like you know barn find field rescue scenario because i did with that meet uncle george and the unfortunate state that it is in i bought in 2018 with the intent to ls swap it and turbo it and basically make it what uncle rob is now then early 2019 came up escalade stuff took off this guy put on the back burner i moved away from pennsylvania and here it sat until now we are going to get it running and drive it back to north carolina do you think it'll make it probably it's a bold question considering we don't even know if it runs it hasn't moved in years it's a bone stock tbi 350 with 334 000 miles on it and it's a one-owner truck one owner the outside looks absolutely sad for two years at least and i trust it more than i trust uncle rob let's just say that and we did race week with uncle rob with a couple issues but you know it's okay i bought it out of oklahoma city the same guy had it for 26 years and traded it in and it had a lot more paint on it when i bought it it's now been falling off but the interior is in great shape that's what i like this thing about interior's great shape it's a little dirty you know look at this thing it's freaking cherry i mean not bad at all i mean very clearly we'll see if i'm sorry yeah i'm not going to start freaking not to do anything so let's uh pull the battery out of here so we can go get a new one as you can see we i already did the uh flipped air cleaner mod so it sounds cooler you'll know what i'm talking about once we start driving it but let's get this hunk of junk out of here and get a new one yep whoever had this thing took really good care of it i mean it's got new all new plug wires it's got like polyurethane bushings and stuff do you want to tell them what's gonna go in there big block time yes i'm excited the blueprint 632 is gonna go in this thing now this one was not actually my uncle george's but where the name derives from is in 1995 my uncle george bought a white one very similar to this which my dad test drove decided he liked it so he went home and bought one just like it which became the suburban that i liked riding around when i was a little kid and eventually got replaced by that red one because the white 95 my dad had is like long gone and destroyed by now this is its you know sentimental recreation and the genesis of all of this the escalade and everything roots back to my uncle george who has had a suburban since like 1986. so that's where the name comes from and we're gonna do him do him just you might be wondering how do you know he needs a battery why don't you just try to jump start it well i tried doing that like a year and a half ago last time i drove this thing and this thing was dead as a freaking door there's a video of that um on my channel i'm gonna make an uncle george playlist you can see that thing when i tried to resurrect this and found out the battery was completely dead and those valve stems are shot they don't hold any air whatsoever how about that i just knew what size this was just by looking at it yeah good thing general motors has not changed that much about these trucks in the last 25 years but look at that the air filter is like brand new somebody actually maintained and cared about this truck unlike me who let it rot away i'm outside for two years but now we're gonna stuff an engine in it is open too that's okay it's just a reservoir oh this is the overflow cap if it overheats we'll add some more it's fine and we're going to jam an engine in here that's worth like more than 10 times what the truck is with a holley sniper system that is also worth just as much as i paid for the truck and an accessory drive that's worth more than the truck which is great because that means we can like run this thing through fields and stuff and it's going to be freaking awesome and i'm so excited let's go to the bar store and get another battery okay we got we got the new battery full disclosure cheapest one that they had so yeah you got to put it in with these thingies facing this way i know i'm trying to get it there it's heavy do you want some help [Music] that was a precise drop it really was yeah i didn't expect it to go that well oh i got the battery all hooked up see if it starts it should ah fumble where did i leave the dang key oh of course i left it in the truck what are you gonna say what'd you just say it's just funny how like you can get in a car and it just smells old you can't just tell it's old because of the way it smells you don't have to look at anything you know you know what she's talking about if you have a 90s chevy truck leave a comment and try to describe the smell that we're smelling that you you've got like feel the stuff that my grandparents had in their driveway too it smelled like that too old gm car right yeah i'd like go plus with all the buttons and it spelled like that inside there yep this is oh it's gonna start it's making noise i'm confident it feels like it's right there it tried to i don't know if this does anything oh hell yeah this thing's been sitting for the freaking two years yeah hell yeah i'll drive it on the flat tires i don't care these things are gonna get absolutely obliterated in some gnarly burnout pretty soon too well i never actually bolted the battery down because i didn't know if it would work or not so i'm gonna do that real quick and we're gonna throw the stock wheels back on this thing now we get to find out if it moves oh we're doing it we're doing the damn thing this one's not totally flat that back is totally flat that backwards it's fine we're fine everything's fine we only got to go about another 50 yards we could take this thing through an automated car wash and see how much paint comes off that'll be funny yeah like poke some of it off on the other side yeah we're gonna we're gonna do that you shouldn't watch the video yeah we could just pressure wash this thing and we'll be fine i think this is gonna get wrapped eventually but right now we're just vibing with the onion look you just let the that's why you guide it so it doesn't roll into the weeds anyway we'll have to take it out of the weeds so i was trying to prevent oh well give a little spin that oh so i just wanted to do that was it worth it yeah okay that's all that matters okay well we could do that to a certain point but we don't want to barrel down here and hit the truck you know we could mess up until it got there when i knew it was gonna come over here okay yeah we just don't want to mess with the paint that's important it's original paint people label me as like you know the cadillac guy escalade guy whatever i'm gmc guy i got three gmc's right here okay so what's the finish line here okay ready set go damn it mitchell you suck look mine's not there yet you can still give me oh no he's going way out of town here oh man look at him he's just going he's still oh finally you're gonna hit the barn don't there we go all right now i gotta go i play over there get my tire but it's worth it i'm just looking at this it's like a pretty good shape i mean it's got some surface rust but it's not bad by any means this full front hub cv looks new you know this looks like the gold on there that breakthrough looked like it was probably relatively new before i parked it these tires are like pretty much freaking new yeah they still got the titties on them and they even put the white letters out which is this is what was on here when i bought this thing it's got it's got some potential i say it's in much better shape under here than uncle rob is because this thing did not live in the north a little tag on the inside of the door says that all the tires should be 45 psi this one's a 30 so we're gonna air them up for maximum fuel efficiency looks quite boring on these wheels i really like better yeah i really like these these bfgs are probably like 20 years old but we're going to get some new all-terrain ko2's on here with these same wheels and it'll be it'll also look so good i'm so excited i'm so pumped for this thing i already have accumulated a good bit of parts for it visually like i have a new front bumper um i got new trim pieces new badges all kinds of stuff so once we get finished the paint falling off and whatever this thing's gonna look freaking sweet how do you like it ruger by the way staples on autoworks.com shop dog shirts coming soon probably by the time you see this video they'll be on the website as of the recording time of this video they're not because we just finished the move to the new shop in charlotte and we had to come back up here to drop my mom off and get um get uncle rob look at all that plush interior just cavernous quality suburban really hurts sarcasm well maybe you will sooner rather than later everyone's a little rough but it also has two-year-old gas in it gonna fill this thing up with some high quality fuel maybe i'll even put 93 in it just because i wanna yeah the tbi and stuff is gonna go away but the tank i wanna use the same tank so i wanna get it clean running good for just for the drive back i want to make it back and it's probably going to be until after race week until we get to this thing because we're going to do the monte carlo first but it'll be used as a shop truck until then so i'm going to put some freaking fuel system cleaner in there it's stp i'm not sponsored by them or anything this is what they had in there and i've had good luck with the octane booster um in the past as far as like cleaning out gunked up stuff so let's go do a locker on here see how much paint's gonna fly off before we go into the car wash take mental note i took some pictures too so we can see there we go i'm really concerned about this door we're gonna lose a lot of pain on the door so he's gonna have one heck of a time in here i feel like i'm staging when i pull into one of these car washes you know what i mean leave a comment if you feel the same way it's like you're pulling under the beans of the drag strip when you're in the car wash oh my god if this is a brushed car wash there'd be no paint left at all let's see how it did here that looks a lot better i don't know how much paint we lost it didn't really blow it hard enough to get all the moss off there but yeah still got some here but it's okay hello uncle george is ready to rip putting good gas in it got rid of all the stumbling it runs great now that's all it needed oh yeah next day or so here we're gonna get packed up hit the road back to the new shop in north carolina this is ruger's new favorite vehicle you think so he does like it in there he likes the bench seat so he can fit with us i like it too it's nice nice and squishy i can't wait to drive this thing around the freaking 800 horsepower 632. it's gonna be great the world said we're just not ready to leave yet i guess we go to leave my mom's house this morning we're gonna go load up drive uncle george back to uh the north carolina yes that is a new hat you can find it at stablesandautoworks.com stay tuned to the end of the video for a quick walk around explanation of the new shop here too but let's get back to that save it for the end and elvis pops up the reduce engine power code again and it won't go away uh because of what we're doing we're gonna have to logan has to drive elvis and i'm gonna drive up the georgia first we're gonna like switch off probably you can't be dealing with that yank the pedal out of this truck and see if see if it fixes yours so here we go here's our donor truck he said it's a it's an lbz just like mine it only has 54 000 miles on it so these guys here are a completely separate business from my friends he's not even here yet they came out and i told him what's going on he's like oh did you ever check the vultures pedal i guess he's had this problem before and he's going to help us figure out what's going on then if that pedal is actually needed to be changed which is great because i have never encountered anybody who's experienced this before and i think we're going to get fixed up just fine whether we need parts or just to fix a wire somewhere if we can fix the wire stuff to do it if we need a pedal we've got a pedal over there take my pedal out you'll change it real quick it'll be like that sometimes he hooked up to his like real nice scan tool thing in there and if i floored the pedal with the truck off and he cleared it it would stay gone feel like with the pedal come right back so hoping this is it but now this one's a little dirtier i'll have to dig this out okay so pull the new pedal in cleared the code it's still gone i don't know what else to do just hoping it doesn't come back really hoping it doesn't come back i think we did it though i'm just glad this didn't happen on the way to north carolina yes yeah freaking this title probably had a mental breakdown if that happened this pedal has been on the fritz all year the first time it gave us problems was that that uh during the great texas freeze we had to drive your car around steve's not even here yet he's still freaking taking a shower or something that's how fast this was somebody said that it sounds like you have a series 60 in the duel i mean tell them it's a series 69 yes series 69 actually limited edition so this is steven he's helped me out i remember him being on the phone on race week and stuff you bailed me out again you did well you just got here but either way that that truck was the the saver the shark tears valley it's coldest you know you got a good good plug here rusty hook auto salvage check it out never left the parking lot just the plow truck yeah it had the freaking the salt spreader and the like dropping in the bed the bed crumbled into like three pieces when we took it off well that's nice okay well the new pedals seem to do okay um we're gonna load up uncle rob right now and drive uncle george just because that's more fun you know yeah keep it interesting i'm so pumped to drive this thing you guys have no idea most i've ever driven it since i bought it is you know like some 60 mile round trips it's just around town running errands whatever but now we're gonna get to see what it does well here we go 334 804 and i think i reset the trip meter when i bought this thing so i've only put 458 miles on it since then but everything's strapped down ready to go okay should give me a thumbs up for the tinted window i don't know if you can see that but i can let's freaking go all right uncle george well we got on to the highway interstate i've never had this thing on the interstate before it's just doing great this thing drives so freaking good god it drives so good i'm just elated i'm happy he's gonna be right now my bench seat got this freaking wallet out 350 just humming along it's good we're doing good now you might be wondering why is logan doing the hauling and not driving this well she's more comfortable driving elvis than the 26 year old sketchy old suburban how's it going everything good yeah that drives so much better this trailer is amazing it pulls great it doesn't doesn't sway or anything to you it doesn't feel like it's gonna like literally yank you off the road yeah that's the difference between a good trailer and like the the rental trailer that we pulled the monte carlo with she did but figure we'll check the straps now you know when you're driving something questionable and you smell something doesn't smell good smells like something might be burning or something like that and you just get that feeling in the pit of your stomach like oh god please please let this cell smell go away this cannot be coming from my car one of those moments well i just had one of those moments i don't know what it was but it smelled smelled bad and i was afraid that it was coming from me but i think it's gone so carry on i just wanted to share my paranoia with you because it helped me feel better to talk about it out loud you know all right onward we've been driving for i don't know well over 100 miles now and we got to the point where the fuel is starting to go down a good bit and i've noticed that it's starting to misfire and run a little bit like crap it did that when we first fired it up and duck it out of the grass it kind of it ran like crap until it was misfiring and stuff and i'm like okay well it's got two year old gas in it that's gotta be why so you know we put 18 gallons of gas in this thing and it ran fine it was great and now i just think we're getting low enough that it's i don't know the way it settled or something it uh it's kind of starting to do that again so we're just gonna drive until you know see if it gets worse let the tank get lower and then fill it up more with pressure gas because all we did is dilute the whole gas we didn't actually pump it out so i think we'll be okay it may have also just been from sitting there getting a little bit warmer that made it you know act up a little bit more i'm really not sure but either way we're gonna keep on trucking weather's great it's like 75 degrees outside one of the only things doesn't work in here is the air conditioning i just think it needs to be recharged um but that's it that's why i'm driving with the window open and the weather is fantastic i couldn't ask for anything more oh we just stopped to pee put some more gas in here we didn't even use all the gas to be put in the other day this thing is like one has a giant tank two doesn't get terrible gas mileage apparently i have no idea what it's getting but it's not terrible i don't know man i love driving this it's just it's great good job george you're really doing it so get this it actually runs worse now i mean probably filling it up stirred up a bunch of sediment whatever in the tank i think it'll it'll clear up it's whatever it's always after we stop that it did that it might just be because you know stop moving you know vapor expansion whatever i don't know it's all that's temperamental but the bottom line is we're still moving and that's all that matters side note logan is a freaking champ she's hauling uncle rob back there like just fine she'd rather drive that than this you leave a comment and tell her that she's a freaking champion because most dudes wouldn't even want to haul that thing and she's just back there doing it like she's been doing it forever i'm really impressed with how quickly she's picking that up just had our first problem here all right you ready for this i jiggled i jiggled the phone charger and i saw the gauges like twitch the speedometer just went punk and then went back to where it was and now that doesn't work anymore so i'm pretty sure i just blew the uh the cigarette lighter fuse or something i i don't know can't charge my phone anymore it'd be like that i guess i'll take it still doing good i think the gas situation has cleared up a bit logan is still back there just trucking along we have walkie-talkies and she's barely said anything like she's just zoned just hauling it's like 64 degrees outside so i'm actually getting a little chilly with the window down but i like it i'm enjoying being cold because i've had swamp ass for about two weeks straight and it's not fun because the front of the newel is not um it always gets really hot because the windshield's there and the only functioning ac unit we have was the center one so it was just hot in there the whole time driving that was hot packing it's just hot everything's been hot tired of it being hot man i'm going to enjoy being cold while i can going down this big grade in west virginia maybe five percent grade making my ears pop and it's not fun driving through west virginia especially if you have a trailer like i hate driving through west virginia with a trailer i hate driving through west virginia at all but she's still…
