Masking Carpet For Painting. House Painting Tips

All [Music] right, I'm in the sterile now. I'm going to give you some tips and tricks masking this carpet. I'm going to be using a finger tucking technique. I um I use two different tapes um in this stairwell. I'm going to be using Frog Tape Blue on the window behind me cuz it has paint block technology. It doesn't allow anything to bleed behind it with that technology on the tape on the stairwell. This is the production tape I use. And this is Frog Tape uh Prograde production tape, the orange tape. A lot less expensive. Doesn't have paint block technology on it. Uh used to be um known as CP19, but now I'm going to get down here. I use inch and a half tape when I'm masking on carpet. And I mask with tape first and then I go back and put my paper with 1-in tape over the top of that. So, I'm going to show you and give you um some pointers on doing this finger tucking technique. That way you can get paint behind the carpet. Pull the tape. The carpet will fluff back up and it'll look like um the walls were painted before the carpet was installed. Okay, here's the the finger tucking technique I use when I'm masking on stairs. And what I like to do is just get my tape up against the wall and then I push down and I'm going to be tucking and pushing the carpet down. And you can see how somebody's already painted this carpet and it's kind of stuck it to the wall a little bit, but I can tightly pull that down and push it and it's going to make that carpet pull really tight. So, I'm getting it up against the wall, pulling it down, and pulling my tape tight. So, you can see how that is nice and tight. I will do it again. Close here up against the wall. I'm going to just walk my fingers along that tape. And you can see how tight and it pulls that carpet down. Now, once I paint this wall, when I pull my tape off, it fluffs the carpet right back up. And there's going to be paint behind the carpet right there. But yet, no paint on the carpet. Once I run this whole section of tape up the stairs, then I'm going to put paper and I'll show you what that looks like. I don't use inch and a half tape on my paper masker cuz it's more expensive. I don't need that on the mouth. Now, you can, if you're concerned about saving money, you can actually do the paper without the tape. I just like running the tape first um and then going and putting my paper on afterwards. So, I can just now just tack this on. And after I get this on, I'm going to set my drop cloth over the top of this. Now, we just work my way all the way up the stairs. Now my carpet is 100% pro protected. If you've got to, you know, touch up some areas and make it tighter, you can just do that individually with, you know, pieces of tape, single pieces of tape, just like that. All right. Once I've got to my paper and tape, however I go about doing it on both sides, I'm just going to run my drop cloth up my stairs. I do like using a 4x12 runner so I don't have a whole lot of drop cloth on the sides and edges. Just going to run this down my stairs. Now I can just get my drop cloth set properly. Now I'm not going to get anything on my carpet. It's all ready to go. So, there you have it. Some tips and tricks masking carpet in this tight space and the technique I use and finger walking uh technique I use to get it masked and prepped. Hopefully you've enjoyed this video.
