Initial Tape Placement and Tensioning

What happens here

Begin by taking your painter's tape and tacking down the end of the tape directly onto the baseboard where you want to start. Once secured, pull out approximately 1 to 1.5 feet of tape from the roll. While holding the tape taut, but not overly tight, carefully position it along the top edge of the baseboard. The goal is to have the tape overlap onto the baseboard by about a 1/16 of an inch. This slight overlap ensures that when viewed from a distance, your paint line will appear perfectly straight, even if the baseboard or wall has minor imperfections. If the tape is placed onto the wall, any slight crookedness will be easily noticeable.
