HVLP Gun Repair Tip. Repacking A Maxum Spray Gun.

this is christy idaho here on paint life tv today we're going to be talking about uh repacking a titan hvlp gun now i've got a couple hvlp guns we got um the maximum elite gun and we got a maximum two gun here and the packing itself will show you this little tiny packing if you didn't know that these guns had packings in them they do have packings and they do need to re occasionally be replaced customer brought a gun in that was leaking around the trigger right here and i'm gonna show you how to stop that leak and repack one of these guns in this video so if you want to know how to repack a titan hvlp gun stay tuned [Music] so i got a this is a maximum elite gun right here from titan all torn apart and the packing itself i did remove the packing out of it this is a little teflon packing and it's a little wrapped tap tap one packing this is a new one right here and this is what seals the needle from leaking you know around the trigger so i've removed it you'll see that right here in the video removing that packing it's a simple little process when it comes to repacking one of these guns all you need is a simple little tool um a 10 millimeter wrench and then a little tool set i typically have a gun cleaning kit like this it's kind of like a dental kit that has all different picks and um pokers and these devices will help get the old packing out of the gun i'll typically use a device like this to poke and push the packing through so it starts to come out i'll also use little little devices like this a needle like this or a pick like this to reach in and grab the packing itself and pull it out and so you can use these little picks and devices to repack your guns kind of just a kit that i typically have for cleaning my hvlp guns and airless guns so kit you i'm definitely going to need to have so to remove the packing i um took off the needle and the nut off of the back the back nut off the back of this gun right here to remove the packing what that's going to look like on this maximum two gun right here we're just going to remove the back cap that has the needle exposed we're going to pull this needle out here's the needle set the side don't want to damage that needle don't want it to fall in the ground keep in a safe spot because it can just roll right off your table whatever you're working on you're gonna have a knot right on the back here that's going to have the packing behind that i'm just going to use a 10 millimeter wrench to remove this nut to expose the packing back there and it's not like super easy to get to um it's easy to take off but not so easy to put back on so i'm just going to unscrew this nut and it's this brass nut right here i'll just use my needle just to point to it that's the nut right there just gonna unscrew that pull the trigger back just with my fingers unscrew it it's going to come off and that's the packing nut that's what keeps the packing pushed in there and tight and sealed so i'm going to remove that set that aside you're going to want to clean that thing now to remove the packing and put a new packing in if you're going to remove it you're going to have to take off the front of your gun here and then you should have one of these tools right here that comes with your gun to unscrew the needle nozzle set right here and that's going to expose the inside where you can actually you know get in there and push out the old packing packing is not going to go into this side it's going to go into the back side so this gun i've already removed the packing what happened is um with one of the this gun right here it was leaking out of the trigger we had another gun customer was cleaning and they noticed a piece of the teflon this teflon was sticking out didn't know what it was reached in with um some needle nose grabbed it and started unwinding this teflon pack and it's really it's kind of just like teflon tape pipe tape so it's just just kind of wrapped up and that was sticking out of the gun customer started pulling on it and all of a sudden the packing starts unwinding now the gun's going to leak so you're going to have to replace it so now to replace the the packing of the gun just want to make sure this gun is now it's all torn apart make sure you clean it extremely well black or thinner i like using acetone to clean my guns out this packing is just going to drop right in the back and it's going to have to just use your fingers to try to get it in there and get this packing to drop in there you know there's no front side or back side but they're just up and down so you kind of got to work it that's where your picks can come into handy you can grab a pick you can set that down there and i just dropped it right in there using my pick there's a lot of different shapes of picks in my kit right here and we have these things available at paint life supply now you're going to take your the packing nut i'm going to put this back in there this is where it kind of gets a little bit difficult but there's no easy way i'm trying to hold this trigger up and then i'm trying to drop that knot down inside there straight in once i get it straight i can start with my fingers and once again i'm trying it's not easy for me to do on and show on video but we'll try to get it in here best we can this technique this is a new technique i'm trying that's not working here i'll try to do it like this way oh my gosh there we go got it in there so now once your packing nut is in there and all the frustration is gone trying to balance that and get your fingers in there and twist that thing in now i'm going to take my 10 10 millimeter wrench and tighten this up now this is a very critical step and putting this packing in and tighten this nut you're going to cinch this up just until it pushes that packing in and seats it so not very tight at all i don't want to just tighten and wrench it down so this is a critical part so i'm tightening up and i feel that it's once i feel it's seated down in there i feel like it's seated now all right so now once you've get the packing in there and your um packing nut has tightened down not over tighten we're going to install our needle now another step just to get that needle to slide in there easily easily or a little bit more easy and to lube the packing i'm just going to rub down my needle if you've got some piston lube so tighten piston lube i can just rub some of that on my needle it's going to make it glide in lubricate that teflon packing so i'm going to stick my needle back in it's going to glide right in now i can take my cap it's going to screw my cap right back down gonna squeeze my trigger reinstall my gun put everything back together put on your nozzle gonna tighten this down when you're doing this it's a good thing to just you know completely tear your gun apart clean this thing up a hundred percent now it's ready to go now a critical step in this process i'm going to hook my hvop gun up now i'm going to hook it up to either water or product and i'm going to begin spraying it at a low pressure and watch to make sure nothing's leaking out of this packing nut right here if you have anything leaking out of this packing nut what we're going to want to do is take your 10 inch 10 millimeter wrench i'm going to tighten it a quarter turn just a quarter turn and then i'm going to spray again under pressure and if the leakiness stopped then you would want to stop right there if it continues to leak then you're going to want to take your 10 millimeter wrench again and tighten it another quarter turn and you're going to keep doing that quarter turn process until it stops leaking and then that's when your packing is tight enough a lot of times once you tighten it down just initially just not very tight just enough to seat that packing it's not going to leak but that's how you replace the teflon packing and an hbo2b gun a um an hvlp gun a maximum elite or a maximum two gun from titan very simple process it's only going to take you about 10 minutes these packings are available at paint life supply co they're i don't think they can be more than a dollar will show the
