Learn Something New! How to Plant, Grow, Harvest and Preserve Shiitake Mushrooms!

What happens here

After harvesting, the shiitake mushrooms need to be washed thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. Once clean, use a fillet knife (or similar sharp knife) to slice the mushrooms into approximately 3/4-inch to 1-inch thick pieces. This uniform size ensures even and efficient freeze-drying. Discard any woody stems or rotten-looking parts. Arrange the sliced mushrooms in a single layer on the metal trays provided with the freeze dryer, ensuring there is enough space for proper air circulation during the drying process.

Goal: Clean and slice mushrooms for optimal freeze-drying
