Learn Something New! How to Plant, Grow, Harvest and Preserve Shiitake Mushrooms!

What happens here

Once the shiitake mushrooms have matured on the logs, it's time to harvest them. There are two primary methods: using a knife or using snips (pruning shears). For both methods, aim to cut the mushroom stems as close to the log as possible without damaging the log or the mycelium, which will ensure future mushroom yields. The stems of shiitake mushrooms are very woody and are typically inedible, so they should be trimmed off. The video demonstrates cutting the mushroom right at the base of the cap.

Goal: Properly harvest shiitake mushrooms for consumption or preservation
