I MESSED UP A VIDEO…LETS GET TO FIXIN

What happens here

After applying the solder, turn off the torch and allow the soldered joint to cool down naturally. Do not use water or a wet rag to cool it down, as this can weaken the joint. Once the joint has cooled sufficiently (which should only take a moment for half-inch copper), carefully remove the pipe from the vise. Inspect the joint to ensure the solder has flowed completely around and formed a solid, leak-proof seal. If there are any black areas or excess flux residue, use the fitting brush to clean them off.

Goal: Ensure the soldered joint is secure and clean

Tools and materials

  • Bench Vise — Initially held the pipe during soldering
  • Fitting Brush — Cleaning off excess flux residue
  • Soldered Copper Assembly — The completed soldered pipe and fitting
