What happens here

With the copper pipe still secured in the vise, use an open mesh sanding cloth or a fitting brush to thoroughly clean the outside surface of the pipe where the fitting will be attached. Next, use the fitting brush to clean the inside surface of the copper male adapter. This prepares both surfaces for optimal solder flow and adhesion.

Goal: Prepare the copper surfaces for soldering

  • Copper Male Adapter — The fitting being cleaned
  • Copper Pipe — The pipe being cleaned
  • Fitting Brush — Cleaning the inside of the fitting and the outside of the pipe
