How Wood Fence Posts are Made
What happens here
Finished posts are then bundled together for air drying. To facilitate proper air circulation and prevent moisture buildup, small pieces of wood, known as dunnage, are placed between layers of posts as they are stacked. This ensures uniform drying. Once stacked, a worker uses a special banding machine to secure the bundle with strong plastic straps. Unlike metal bands, these plastic straps prevent rust stains on the posts, maintaining their aesthetic quality. Forklifts transport these bundles to designated outdoor drying areas in the lumberyard.
Goal: Prepare posts for efficient air drying by stacking and banding them.
