What happens here
This video documents a farmer and his neighbor relocating a herd of seven cattle from an overgrazed upper field to a new pasture with winter forage. The process involves bucket-training the cows to follow a Kubota utility vehicle and using feed as a lure to guide them across a long distance, ensuring a low-stress environment for the animals.

(5,571 characters)hey there folks this is Josh Stoney Ridge farmer this is my neighbor Tony right here what we're going to be doing today is something that I'm very nervous about so we're going to be moving the cows from way up here outside the fence all the way down you guys can tell me if this is a mistake or not we're going to move them from way up here all the way down into this pasture where we have some stockpile winter forage so it is February first week of February here and the cows are nibbling down the forage pretty substantially up here in the upper field a little bit more than I thought they would so we want to give them some good winter for gonna put them over on the other side just in case I have three bales of hay left I've got I think it's seven cows now since we lost one three bales of hay left and I'm worried about snow so if we get one more snowstorm I want to have enough hay to get the cows through the winter this will get the cows through the winter however it's a bit risky so Tony's gonna be my driver of the Kubota he's going to go out in front of me we've been trying to bucket train quote unquote bucket train the cows so that they follow the bucket and they follow the Kubota should be a breeze right it's been a buck a cakewalk it's gonna be okay wall that's it we'll be throwing the drone up in the area drone footage just so you guys know we're doing this in a low-pressure environment in other words we're not trying to push the cows we're not trying to go ahead make all that noise and you know cows are very responsive to hissing noises - clapping noises and they can tell when you're agitated and they'll get agitated so this could be a dangerous thing the cows could get out but I think we're going to be fine they seem hungry and they seem eager to come and follow us try to call them up get busy [Music] it's gonna reach far [Music] cows are down here already chomping at the bit as soon as we pulled up in the Kubota they went right for it I'm very nervous about this guy's totally totally nervous Tony's gonna run down the hill here and we're gonna toss a drone up in the air come out come out I'm so nervous it's just probably the most nervous I've ever been behind a camera what they're doing give it they seem to be doing great let's open the gate real quick right here my heart is beating out of my chest you know this is uh we had cows growing up but really this is the first time I've had to deal with cattle as an adult so this is this is totally new totally new to me and I don't know what they're gonna do you see the baby getting a little excited back there Luca come on all right go go go go huh come on set the camera down I think what but mom he's got to go a little bit faster whoa whoa man wouldn't a venture huh what an adventure the cows are whoa Hema Oh cows are way off from me whoa you're way over here way back over there I got set the camera down guys I gotta set it down holy holy macaroni man it worked guys that was I'm sweating and shaking like that was super duper stressful for me this area we're sitting in is kind of halfway in between I'll get a good drone shot for you I'm not sure what the drone did we set it to follow us I don't think it followed us but I'll get you a good drone shot so you can see the actual distance we had to move the cows they went way off over here on the other side of the driveway and we just rode over with the Kubota and they just jumped in and followed us Tony shook the bucket a little bit and we got to chasing them so moving and shaking right there let's go down take a look at the cows they're settling into their new pasture and they're already grazing so by the way Tony thanks good neighbors in the country man you just can't beat it we're gonna go down here and take a look at the cows and they're already grazing man I'm gonna get some good drone footage for you of these guys grazing in this large pasture I do need to do a quick lap inside the pasture and make sure all the gates are closed I did it once already but I'm gonna double-check myself bucket training work cows are like little kids man they're super excited to be in there they're all running and jumping and bucking and kicking it's so awesome man so awesome I'm totally enjoying having livestock here on the farm this is what's been missing it's what's been missing in my life really guys that was probably the most nervous I had ever been around any kind of livestock right there and you can see they're there absolutely happy we wanted to do this at a time of day you know it were at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon so we wanted to do it not close to dark because we don't want them getting spooked and running into a fence we wanted to do it where they'd have two or three hours of daylight to kind of explore and decide where they want to chill out so awesome man got him moved I was nervous I wanted miss a Stoney Ridge to be here but she had to work today so just two of us in the Kubota and it worked awesome guys thanks a lot please I hope you enjoyed this video please pound that like button jump in here subscribe to the channel all kinds of fun stuff we're going to start doing some intensive grazing here in the spring we're gonna be moving these cows on a daily basis sometimes maybe even twice a day we're restoring our land and bringing our farm back man super awesome we gotta get Tony in for the whoo here we'll see you guys next time on the Stoney Ridge farm channel thanks a lot pound the like button subscribe and see you next time here in sweet add some ways may still be read
