Wipe Off Excess Stain

What happens here

Approximately one hour after applying the stain, inspect the deck for any heavily coated spots that are still wet or show standing puddles of stain. If found, take a clean rag and gently wipe off the excess stain from these areas. This crucial step prevents the stain from remaining tacky for several weeks, which would otherwise collect dust and debris, leading to a poor finish.
