How a freeze dryer works...best snacks ever!
What happens here
After 18.5 hours of freeze-drying, the machine indicates 'PROCESS COMPLETE'. To open the machine, first open the drain valve to vent the internal vacuum. This will cause a hissing sound as air enters the chamber. A clear drain tube directs any collected moisture into a pressure canner, used here as a collection pot. Once the hissing stops, indicating the vacuum has released, twist the door handle to open the thick Plexiglas door.
