What happens here
When you reach the final rows of a room or encounter areas where a traditional flooring nailer cannot be swung (e.g., near walls or obstacles), alternative fastening methods are required. You can either 'top nail' by driving nails through the face of the board (holes will need to be filled with wood putty later) or 'blind nail' by driving nails at an angle into the tongue of the board, which conceals the fasteners. For boards over 5 inches wide or for critical end rows, it is often recommended to use a full spread of a polyurethane-based adhesive in addition to nailing for enhanced stability.
Goal: Securely fasten hardwood planks in tight spaces and challenging areas.
Tools and materials
- Finishing Nailer Ridgid — Top nailing or blind nailing hardwood boards in tight spaces
- Trowel — Spreading adhesive
- Nails — Securing boards via top nailing or blind nailing
- Polyurethane-Based Adhesive — Full spreading under wider boards or end rows for extra hold
- Wood Putty — Filling visible nail holes from top nailing
