What happens here

As depicted by the 'elevation gain' and the 'wall' created in the video, a retaining wall was constructed. Begin by preparing the wall's foundation. In the excavated trench, lay and compact a 6-inch layer of crushed gravel. This provides a stable, level, and well-draining base. Lay the first course of retaining wall blocks directly on this compacted gravel, ensuring each block is perfectly level both front-to-back and side-to-side. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap blocks into position if needed. For subsequent courses, stack the blocks, staggering the vertical joints for strength. Most retaining wall systems are designed to slightly lean back into the earth for added stability. Apply landscape adhesive between courses if specified by the block manufacturer. Behind the wall, place a layer of drainage gravel, and then backfill with native soil, compacting it in lifts.

Goal: Build a stable and level retaining wall to manage elevation changes.
