What happens here

Begin by carefully selecting and laying the largest and flattest irregular stones for the first course (foundation layer) directly on the compacted gravel base. Position each stone to fit together as tightly as possible, minimizing gaps. Use a rubber mallet to adjust stone placement and gently tap them into position. Utilize shims (if necessary) and a spirit level to ensure each stone is perfectly level from side to side and from front to back. The first course is the most critical for the wall's overall stability, so take extra time to achieve precise placement and leveling.

Goal: Establish a level and stable foundation layer for the retaining wall.
