(9,503 characters)welcome to the farm guys this was not going to be a live stream day I wasn't going to do this uh this is uh exciting and fun and unexpected totally unexpected uh so I came out here to feed the cows uh just now and I got everything rolled out for him the hay rolled out for him I wasn't going to do a live stream because I'm racing this storm that's coming um here on the Stony Ridge Farm I uh it's supposed to snow a little bit tonight I don't know if we'll get all that they're asking all that they're calling for excuse me but a new addition to the Farm is here I don't have my fancy microphones or anything I don't have anything I think it's Mona that's had the baby but I'm not sure all the cows were looking down here in the woods so we're going exploring right now together this is live this will be the first time I've seen this calf and um gosh I would have thought we would have totally seen this calf yesterday uh but we didn't we would have seen where this cow was about ready to calf yesterday so we're going to walk through the woods there are a couple Springs right here this is where the cows are getting their water right now and this calf is right down here I do believe so I I noticed that the cows were acting a little funny this morning and that's why totally why hey m i see Johnny the bull is over here and he's checking everything out got this cow down here drinking a little water beautiful morning here on the farm we we're going to need a name for this new baby I need to get my ear tagger out I gosh this is unexpected however I look down in the woods here and this is what I saw we're going down the cow Trail through the woods let me see if I can get a better uh camp camera here for you guys to to see back dual camera let's try that that might be a little bit better there we go okay this is a little bit of a cow Trail this is where the cow's been coming down drinking in the creek um a little bit of a cow Trail down through the woods here totally to be expected Donnie the bull is kind of over here guarding our new mama and again I think our new mama is Mona but I'm not sure and it looks like she has just dropped this calf sometime in the last like 10 minutes this just happened literally while I was rolling feed out it sounds like Mona nope no it's 13.5 calf 13 and a half Donnie the bull is standing guard over here and uh 25's back here looking after her standing guard also um we're going to get down in here and see this new mama I don't want to get too awful close to Mr frisky bull over here he he could get a Little Bit Sassy and this calf is kind of born in a strange spot down here in the woods this is the first calf I've had born in the woods on the farm that I know about so it's a little steep right here this area is called Fern Gully it's what I call Fern Gully it's a little Valley down here kind of looks like that movie Cold Mountain down here doesn't it all right we got to keep an eye on Donnie our calf is right on the other side um do you not bring into a barn this calf will be fully fully furry and it'll do just fine these are robust animals Guys these aren't kittens okay so yeah hey hey guys hey Mama we don't want to upset mom too much but baby's already looking to suckle mama's going to lick her dry she'll dry out pretty quick and we're not going to bother mom too awful much hey mama hey mama see how woolly that little calf is yeah that's normal now if it were to get really really cold we'll keep coming back and checking all night long if it were to get really really cold that calf will be sitting in my living room tonight or at the very least it'll be in the shop with the heater on it but it'll do fine guys there's no worry in this uh in this climate here there's just no worry uh if it were the wind was whipping and it was 5 degrees below zero of course if we were out in Wyoming um then for sure and she's pretty I didn't I didn't expect 13.5 to be popping out of calf today I think we're going to see our first drink of milk here so there we go I think best thing to do is probably I want to see this calf drink and it's looking to drink but I think the best thing to do is probably uh back away and let Mom and calf do their thing there's the calf getting ready to get its first drink of milk get that colostrum in there it's okay Mama it's it's a little rocky down here for that little calf but you know what I've learned guys and you can fuss and complain and tell me you're theories and thoughts all day long but what I've learned is leave mom alone leave the calf alone and let them do their thing okay that Mama will will treat that calf and lick it clean and that Mama will do everything that needs to be done to keep that calf warm and that calf is born with a a nice uh nice nice thick layer of fur so it's good for them very good for them often times animals tend to have their babies uh farm animals tend to have their babies in the most stressful conditions but the wind is calm everything's good and baby is latched oh she was almost latched on little heer calf Mama stimulating the tar out of her yeah so what does that mean for us well here's what it means for us I want to show you guys our Mama's had a new b a new baby the baby looks good super healthy time for Josh to leave mama and baby alone leave them alone walk away and get away from them let them do what they do let them live okay it is time for me to let baby and mama do their thing come back and check on them oh here in just a little while uh probably right before dark just to make sure uh if baby does get down and they can get hypothermic but it's just not that cold out here so I think we'll be just fine 13.5 so yeah that makes a total of 14 right all right I'm going to walk up here we'll kind of talk a little bit I did not anticipate going live uh right now I got my camera guy coming we're going to rebuild that steel chainsaw here a little bit later later today and as I step further away from mama and baby I think we're going to see him nursing let me turn that camera around a little bit so you guys can watch this is all normal this calf has been on the ground for oh probably probably less than 10 minutes I mean it was still wet so yep short bu mooner says means more yummy beef is that cow going to feed that calf so again you know as people we we tend to want everything our way right away we got that Burger King philosophy on life it's got to be done it's got to be done quick it's got to be perfect everything's got to be right let me tell you you got to leave these animals alone got to just leave them alone get away from them let them do their thing I have struggled with cows trying to C and it did not work out I've struggled and struggled and struggled uh with a cow that I thought was having trouble calving I left her alone for what 25 minutes or so and she had her calf so stressing these animals running these animals what you guys can't see and mama and baby are right there okay what you can't see is that Mom is licking that baby but while I was over there mom was pushing and shoving that baby so it's important to just shut up and leave the animal alone just shut up and leave them alone it makes so much sense yeah whenever they're calling for a storm you do have a you do have a little more risk of having babies Denise says let Mother Nature do her thing exactly that's a strong little calf it's I mean the fact that it's stumbling around on the Rocks over there really means something really says something about the strength of that calf and it'll follow Mom Mom will be just fine mom's got plenty of milk um the calf is Seeking a nipple to suckle mom's licking it dry right now so I'll come back I'll post a a photo in the uh Community page over on YouTube a little later on as I come back and check on Mom and baby so it is pretty amazing to watch and that'll be uh 501 2025 01 that's what that Cav's number will be pretty awesome storm coming in tonight three inches calling for in Greensboro Chris White yep we're supposed to get some storms we're supposed to get a little weather so but it's okay we're going to leave everybody alone the calf is over there suckling now that's what we want to see Mom letting the calf suckle and this is not her first baby not at all by a long stretch so we are supposed to get a little bit of winter weather again we'll keep a close eye on the calf but I don't think it's going to be that big of a deal um what we're supposed to get is supposed to be only over about 3 hours here plenty of shelter plenty of shelter up in here if Mom wants to get up underneath some brush or debris we don't have have to baby these animals when Cales are born in the field like this um and my good buddy Greg Judy out in Missouri will tell you and he's got a lot harsher climate than this we aim for the Cales uh to be born sometime in March April when it's a little bit warmer out but sometimes this happens and that calf look good very woolly so in the winter time if a calf is born and it's cold outside they'll come out fully furred out fully furry if it's a summertime the calf will come out slick as a button it's kind of interesting isn't it good stuff well guys we got a new calf it's pretty cool uh very happy just wanted to share that with you I got to get back in the shop get the four-wheelers back and uh get to work on this Chainsaw for you guys take care have a great day thank you so much thanks for all the congratulations see you next time on the Stony Ridge
