Feedin' Some Hungry Cows and running the sawmill...winter on the farm!
What happens here
To create a square cant, the log must be rotated and successive cuts made until all four sides are flat. After removing the first slab, use the sawmill's hydraulic log turner to rotate the log 90 degrees. Make another cut and remove the resulting slab. Repeat this process until a perfectly square beam, or cant, is achieved. The presenter is aiming for an 8x8 inch cant from this log. The rough slabs removed during this process will be used as dunnage or 'stickers' for stacking finished lumber.
Goal: Transform the round log into a square cant by milling off all four sides.
