Feedin' Some Hungry Cows and running the sawmill...winter on the farm!
What happens here
With the log loaded, begin the milling process by making the first cut. Activate the saw blade and slowly feed it through the log to create a flat surface, known as a 'cant.' The saw blade is lubricated with soapy water to aid in cutting. Once the first cut is complete, raise the blade and remove the initial slab from the top of the log. This slab, despite being rough, can be used later as 'stickers' (dunnage) to separate layers of drying lumber.
Goal: Make the initial flat cut on the log to create a cant and prepare the first slab for dunnage.
