Hey dad, what do you think about commercial electrical work versus residential electrical work? >> Well, a residential electrician I think is a fantastic career. I think it's a great way to pursue, but it's a different animal when you're talking residential construction. >> If you're drilling holes in wood, if you're doing ROMX wiring, that's rough. >> That's rough work. >> It is because it's the vanilla ice cream of electrical, right? It's that anybody can do it. How are you going to compete with that? How are you going to get your rate if you want extreme wealth? Yeah, >> you need to get out of wood plastic boxes. Try to get away from that. You need to start getting into the metal, right? The EMT conduits, the metal boxes. It's higher pay. >> That makes sense. So, I'm mainly doing a lot of residential work now cuz you're paying your dues. >> Yeah. What would be some advice for residential electrician to start getting into commercial work? Like, I don't know how I get my foot in the door. >> My huge advice is to treat every customer like it's Jeff Bezos's mother. You don't know who you're working for. You don't know when you're going to be going to someone's house. You're dealing with someone's cousin, aunt, uncle, and they love your work. And what do they do? They get done at dinner time. They say, "Hey, I hired this guy and he was fantastic." Yeah. Who was it? Right. A local guy. And then maybe there's an opportunity in a commercial environment. And then you go. So by you treating your previous customer with the utmost respect and dignity, >> they in turn referred you to the bigger stuff. >> Oh, that makes a lot of sense. >> That's how it happened with me. >> Thanks, Dad. God is true.
