Don't Ignore This! Fixing a Leaking Water Heater Pressure Valve

What happens here

The new T&P relief valve needs to be properly sealed to prevent leaks. First, apply blue PTFE (Teflon) thread tape to the threaded portion of the new T&P valve. Wrap it clockwise, covering all but the first thread. The video suggests 3 layers of tape for a good seal. After applying the tape, apply a layer of pipe dope (such as Megaloc brand) over the Teflon tape. This combination provides a robust, leak-proof seal and ensures that the threads engage smoothly. The first thread is left uncovered to allow for easy starting into the water heater's opening and to prevent excess tape/dope from entering the tank.

Goal: Apply thread sealant to the new T&P valve for a leak-proof installation.
