Don't buy the wrong electrical box. Let's get after it. This box with nails is called the new work box and it goes on before you hang your drywall. It attaches directly to your studs. This is called an old work box and it's commonly found in renovations or after the drywall goes up. These tabs secure the box in place. After you cut the hole in your drywall, push your box in, use the screws on the front to tighten the box. Not too tight, you don't want to crush your drywall. If you need two outlets, two switches, or a combination of both, get a multi-gang box. You can find them in your old work as well as in your new work style. This one's an adjustable box. Clamp it on the stud, screw it in, and it allows you to adjust the depth of your box according to your finished wall, whether it's double drywall, tile, you name it, you can adjust this box. These are metal boxes, commonly found in basements and garages, and most commonly found in commercial buildings. These metal boxes offer many different locations for mounting, as well as different knockouts to run your conduit. These are round boxes, primarily used for light fixtures. These are also round boxes, primarily used for ceiling fans. And unlike these boxes, they have the extra supports that handle the weight and vibration of a ceiling fan. There are many different kinds of electrical boxes out there. These are just seven of them that I had laying around, and these are the most common ones that you're going to find. Anyways, it's fire night. I'll catch you guys later. Peace.
