Sand Off Glaze for Distress

What happens here

Once the glaze has dried to a workable state, use a sander (e.g., an Ekasilk or similar) to sand off portions of the glaze. This technique removes glaze from high points and edges, allowing the underlying stain to show through, creating a distressed, aged appearance. Control the amount of glaze removed to achieve the desired level of antiquing. A vacuum system attached to the sander will help manage the dust created during this process.
