What happens here

This project guides you through creating a unique wooden desk organizer with a hidden drawer and an integrated plant holder. The core technique involves laminating several pieces of wood into a solid block, then meticulously cutting and hollowing out the form using a bandsaw to create seamless, 'invisible' corner joints and functional compartments. The process concludes with sanding, adding a custom drawer knob, and applying a protective oil finish.

heyguys outcomes you can hear from mr. bill that hey guess what we're building this week my spin of the bandsaw box with a plan so without wasting time let's get into the video let's go alright so before we can start building our bandsaw box we're gonna need some lumber one of the cool things about bandsaw boxes is it really you can take all the scrap wood that you having a garage whether it's plywood even hardwood and then glue it all together like so and then once it's all done gluing make your templates and put it on the bandsaw box so this awkward mess right here you see is a bunch of hardwood flooring we're gonna take the clamps up I'm going to clean it up to create a nice square piece on my bandsaw using a big fat resaw blade so let's get to it all right so here's my box I just cleaned it up this is old hardwood flooring that I had so I had to kind of make it someone workable with so what I'm gonna do now is essentially kind of freehand a pattern they're design that I want and I'm gonna put it on the bandsaw and I'm gonna do the outside profile so let's see what you can come up with alright as you saw we just drew out our profile of our bandsaw box and this is the one that I wanted to go with I think what I'm gonna have does this be the drawer and then right here I'm gonna put like a succulent for my wife to have on the table or something different and then I came to my bandsaw and I changed out the 3/4 inch resaw blade that I had and I went to more of a semi scrolling sauce at three sixteenths with about a 4 - per inch blade it's not the smallest lay that way smaller but this is exactly what I needed so we got to switched out the bandsaw is dialed in so let's get to cut [Music] sighs II see we we cut at the silhouette or the overall shape of our bandsaw box it came out pretty pretty good i redesigned the face a little bit the corner the 90-degree corner would've been really tough to make nice and tight with this blade so I just kind of read we figured some of the designs the next thing we're in new part of the bandsaw box is we're gonna cut the back of the bandsaw box off usually can do about half an inch you can kind of whatever you want I'm gonna go with half an inch and then we'll get to the next part I will cut out the back of our bandsaw box and now we're gonna cut the drawer out we're gonna have to establish a cutting point the cutting points usually going along with the grain therefore we can glue it out later so let's get into it [Music] all right so right now we cut the inner drawer part out of our bandsaw box okay so the drawer part the next couple of pieces to it they're going to involve us cutting the back parts of the drawer the front part of the drawer and then after that's done we're gonna cut out the wasted part to allow room for a drawer to actually keep things inside of it so let's draw it up and put it back on the dance all rights at this point we're gonna glue up a few things and there's a few things that we need to do number one we're gonna glue in the the cut in point that we did in our bandsaw box okay so they just comes with the territory put a little bit glue clamp it down and let it set once that part is done next part we're gonna glue in it's gonna be the drawer itself and the drawer is gonna have the front side the back side and we'll let that dry the last part we're going to glue is the back piece that we originally cut off of our bandsaw box and so that's kind of create as a stopper for the when the drawer comes in it doesn't go all the way through so once all of that is glue it in we're gonna go ahead and put it to our sander and clean it up [Music] so we got the cuttin point of the bandsaw box all glued up that's drying over here and we've just finished sanding the inside part of the drawer so I'm gonna put the back and the front part of the drawer and glue them all [Music] so one of the ideas that that would be really cool if we add a little bit extra greenery to our bandsaw box so I'm gonna bore out about a two inch hole right here and we're gonna take a little bit of greenery and we're gonna set it right in there we're gonna dish the plant holder though let's get cuz I didn't have a two inch wide Forstner bit I think mine tops out of like an inch in a couple of quarters I use my largest bit that I have and after getting through the first maybe half inch in depth I kind of used my largest Forstner bit to kind of dig away alright so at this point let's kind of recap what we've done so far we cut the bandsaw box out you cut the inside part we've created our drawer and it's all glued up back to front and then we put the backing back on our bandsaw and then we cleaned it up with any kind of sander that you have typically a bench tops and it works a little bit easier a little bit faster we've bored out our hole it's ready for us I've kind of shaped everything down to about 80 grit we're gonna finish it off with 228 we're gonna hit up 120 then finish it with 220 and then the next step that I want to do right now is take my 3/8 I believe as a router bit and I'm gonna just put a nice curve along the way all over this thing that way it looks nice slick and smooth and we'll go from there here's the last bit peace I made this little door handle out of a scrap piece of wood and so I made all these little abstract pieces put it on the sander and then I'm just gluing to the front of the door all right so we got a project silky smooth that we sanded down to 240 grit I'm gonna start applying the finish on it you can use any kind of finish you'd like personally I like the oil-based Wax kind of feel behind some of my build so I'm gonna use with a classical butcher block oil and wax I think I don't know I just like the way it looks to be honest with you alright guys so here it is the finished product our walnut bandsaw box with a plant inside it is a fake plant I thought it just gives it a little bit of cool characteristics added a little bit of rocks in there for decor and then here it is voila I think overall it came out great a couple of things I would have done differently going at it again yeah number one I would have printed out my design and put it on whenever you take a sharpie and draw it on there's way too much of a variance number two when cutting out the back next time I'd probably use a table saw it leaves a little bit of a better cut so when you comes to gluing it back on it's a little bit fancy and cleaner and more concealing of that initial cut and so yeah we're gonna be using this to put all of our remote controls into to watch TV right on our coffee table and I think it's gonna be a great centerpiece so thanks again for stopping by make sure you hit that like button if you like what you see and you're gonna give it a try make sure you also subscribe down below I put a video out every single Friday all right guys tuning out this week we'll see you next Friday see ya
