Excavation and Rough Grading
At 0:15 in
a whoooooole front facelift. Brand new paver driveway, paver walkway, front courtyard area.
What happens here
After the demolition is complete, excavate the entire area to the precise depth required for the new paver driveway, walkway, and bluestone courtyard. The excavation depth should be calculated by summing the thickness of the pavers (clay brick, bluestone), the bedding sand layer, and the sub-base material, while also ensuring proper sub-surface drainage. Utilize the mini skid steer for efficient removal of soil and to rough-grade the ground according to the planned contours and slopes. It is crucial to establish a minimum 1-2% slope away from the house or any structures to guarantee effective water drainage. Regularly check the grade using string lines and a level for accuracy.
Goal: Prepare the subgrade for base materials
Tools and materials
- Line Level or Transit Level — Precisely checking and confirming the slope and elevation of the subgrade
- Measuring Tape — Verifying excavation depths and dimensions accurately
- Mini Skid Steer Ditch Witch — Efficient excavation, moving soil, and initial grading of the subgrade
- Rakes — Smoothing and leveling the excavated subgrade surface
- Shovels — Fine-tuning excavation, detailed shaping, and cleaning up edges
- String Line and Stakes — Establishing and maintaining consistent elevation and slope during grading
- Wheelbarrow — Transporting smaller quantities of excavated soil or materials around the site
