5 Bathroom Painting Tips. HOW TO PAINT A ROOM
What happens here
For the final coat, first, apply clear caulk along all your taped edges (around trim, door jams, baseboards, etc.). Immediately after the caulk, use your paint brush to 'cut in' along these caulked and taped edges. Following the cut-ins, roll the final coat of paint onto the main wall surfaces. It's crucial to maintain a 'wet edge' as you roll, meaning you should overlap slightly with the previously applied wet paint to prevent visible lap marks. For larger rooms, work in sections (e.g., two walls at a time), completing the caulk, cut-in, and rolling for one section before moving to the next. Immediately after applying the final coat in an area, carefully pull off all the painter's tape before the paint or caulk has a chance to fully dry. This prevents the paint from bridging from the wall to the tape and then peeling off, ensuring perfectly clean lines. Finally, inspect the freshly painted areas for any light spots on the cut-ins and perform small touch-ups as needed. The walls should now have two even coats, and the project will be complete.
Goal: Apply clear caulk along all taped trim edges, cut in with paint, then roll the final coat on the walls, ensuring a wet edge, and immediately remove the tape before paint dries.
