Slide the flexible couplings from the cast iron pipe over the joints so that each coupling bridges the connection between the cast iron and the new PVC pipe. Ensure the couplings are evenly positioned over both pipes. Using a drill or a socket driver, tighten the metal band clamps on both sides of each coupling. Tighten them firmly to create a secure, watertight seal.

Goal: Create a watertight seal at both ends of the new pipe

  • Do not overtighten the clamps, as this can strip the screw or damage the rubber coupling. Tighten until snug and the rubber bulges slightly at the edge of the clamp.
