A flexible rubber coupling is prepared for installation. The person uses a utility knife to carefully trim the rubber sleeve of the coupling to shorten it. After trimming, the metal band clamp is placed back on the rubber sleeve. The prepared coupling is then fitted over one of the cut ends of the PVC pipe. The other cut end is aligned, and the coupling is slid over to bridge the gap. The two metal band clamps are then tightened securely using a nut driver attachment on a power drill to create a firm, leak-proof seal.
