Return to the bathroom. Locate the overflow drain cover plate, which is the metal plate with the lever near the top of the tub. Using a large flathead screwdriver, remove the two screws holding it in place. These screws may be old and tight. Once the screws are out, gently pull the entire assembly, including the faceplate and the attached linkage, straight out of the overflow opening.
