Press down firmly on the base, wiggling it slightly to bed it into the mortar. Use a hammer to gently tap the sides and top of the base to fully seat it. Once seated, use a level to verify it is perfectly level. Push down around the entire base to compact the mortar underneath. Clean any excess mortar that has squeezed out around the perimeter with a rag or sponge.
