Ensure a gap of approximately 0.5 to 1 inch is left between the front edge of the carpet tread and the bullnose (the protruding front edge) of the stair. This gap is vital to prevent any tripping hazards when ascending or descending the stairs. For consistent alignment and ease of installation, butt the back edge of the carpet tread flush against the riser (the vertical part of the stair).
