If your garage door opener's chain or belt has excessive sag, it can be adjusted. First, open the door until the carriage is about midway along the rail. Then, disengage the carriage by pulling the red release handle and manually close the door. Use two wrenches to loosen the nuts on the turnbuckle, which is part of the chain/belt assembly. Rotate the turnbuckle counterclockwise until the slack is reduced. The chain or belt should be positioned at least a quarter inch from the bottom of the rail when properly tensioned. Once the correct tension is achieved, tighten the nuts on the turnbuckle securely. Finally, manually open the door to allow the carriage to re-engage with the turnbuckle.
