Check Thermostat Compatibility

Turn Off Power to HVAC System
5 minutesLocate your home's main electrical panel or breaker box. Identify the circuit breaker that controls your HVAC system (furnace, air conditioner, or both). Flip the breaker to the 'OFF' position. It's advisable to also turn off the power switch located on or near your furnace or air handler.
Remove the Old Thermostat Faceplate
2 minutesMost thermostat covers can be removed by pulling them straight off the wall. Some may have small tabs or screws at the bottom or sides that need to be released first. Refer to your old thermostat's model if you're unsure, or carefully try pulling.
Photograph Existing Wiring

Label Wires

Attach the New Thermostat Faceplate

Configure Smart Thermostat Settings

Test Heating and Cooling Systems
