Step 4 · Cutting In: Where Pros Show Their Skill

A lot of people want to reach for tape here, but for a ceiling line, a pro learns to cut a straight line freehand. Dip just the tip of your brush in the paint, maybe a third of the way up the bristles, and tap off the excess. Now, create a nice, clean line along the ceiling, baseboards, and all your trim. Work in sections you can manage, creating a wet band of paint that you'll roll into next.
