Step 2 · Remove Old Flapper

First, unhook the flapper's chain from the toilet's flush lever arm. Note which hole the chain was connected to for reference. Next, locate the two ears or mounting clips on either side of the flapper base. Gently pull one ear off its mounting peg on the side of the overflow pipe, and then the other. Lift the old flapper out of the tank.
