Step 1 · Shut Off Water Supply & Drain Tank

Locate the water supply valve on the wall behind the toilet, typically low to the ground. Turn the valve handle clockwise until it stops to shut off the water supply. Next, remove the toilet tank lid and set it aside carefully. Flush the toilet, holding the flush handle down to drain as much water as possible from the tank. Use a sponge or a dry towel to soak up the small amount of water remaining at the bottom of the tank.
