Step 4 · Listen for Unusual Noises

After ensuring all previous steps are complete and safety precautions are taken, briefly restore power to the heat pump system by turning the circuit breakers back ON. Turn the thermostat to initiate a heating or cooling cycle. Stand near both the indoor and outdoor units and listen carefully for any sounds that are not typical for normal operation. Pay attention to the compressor, fan motor, and any other moving parts.
