Step 1 · Safety First: Disconnect Power

Locate the main electrical panel or sub-panel that supplies power to your heat pump system. Identify the circuit breaker(s) associated with the outdoor condenser unit and the indoor air handler. Flip these breakers to the OFF position. It is a good practice to place a 'Do Not Turn On' tag or lock on the breaker to ensure no one accidentally restores power while you are working.
