What happens here
This project demonstrates how to achieve a smooth and even subgrade for a new path or road using a John Deere skid steer to spread and level crusher run gravel. The process focuses on efficiently distributing the material and grading it to create a durable base.

(6,439 characters)hey there folks this is Josh Stoney Ridge farmer welcome back to the farm it's another beautiful day here in the woods in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina today we're on the far northwest section of our property and this is a road that we built down through the woods about three years ago we're going to take a little skinny Bop here our John Deere skid steer and we'll take you around that before we get busy working with it and we're gonna be spreading some rock so this road meanders through the woods and it goes around to the bridge that you saw us working on when we got the skid steer stuck last time so let's go over and we'll check out the bridge this is the load of rock this is two loads of seoulite Road base or crusher run okay so this is crush run gravel it has a little bit of rock dust in it it's good for establishing a good base so come along today next place we're gonna go we're gonna take you over and look at the bridge we'll take you around we'll let you look at the skid steer and then we'll put it to work get this project done all right [Music] first of all guys if this is your first time to the Stoney Ridge farm channel if I fall flat on my face because I'm looking at the camera and not looking at the ground then you're okay - laughs guys pound the like button it's really helpful to the channel jump in here subscribe this is rural content at its best guys I try to work really hard to provide you guys some realistic real world content and we're building the first generation farm here so you can see the road it's in good shape right here gravel piles right there I'm not too sure why the truck driver couldn't get quite back this far but it is what it is and we are where we are so this bridge getting right across the creek here we've got a fairly mundane Creek right here it's not a very big creek but it's a good-sized Creek there's a waterfall just down there and we'll be building a farm steak cabin right up here so folks like you can come and stay here on the farm this is the most quiet peaceful serene private area here on the farm to us a private yet it's super private you could come down here with no clothes on and not be seen so it's really really cool what we have here is a bridge that washed out so this area right here washed out we put riprap Rock on this side of the dam and that held up dam I say Dam because it was a dam but there are two pipes here - 24 inch pipes are in the creek right here and then normal conditions that is plenty but in flood conditions where we got nine and a half inches of rain it washed away basically all of this side of the bridge so we came back in here we got some dirt we rebuilt it again there'll be a link at the end of this video and we built the land back up and now we got to put some rock down on here we're expecting a little bit of rain so keep your fingers crossed and we've got 35 percent chance of rain it's been sprinkling on and off we're gonna get the skid loader I'm gonna put the drone up in the air and hopefully we can give you guys some good insight into what it takes to just re-establish Rock right there so we're gonna put the rock down then we're gonna back drag it spread it and try to get you some awesome footage of the whole process should be pretty fun first thing we have to do since the dump truck driver dumped the load in the middle of the road first thing we have to do is cut us a path over top of this pile of gravel I'm not quite sure how I'm gonna go about doing that but it'll be fun before we look at a skid steer I want you guys to see the rock and what it looks like so it's rock with rock dust fine particles that's what we got to build a base with that's what builds a nice base to pack your road down so whenever you're starting a new gravel drive or a new gravel road in our area that's what you use crush run you run over it a bunch of times and it packs it down just almost as solid as concrete let's take a look at the John Deere so this is our Little John Deere 320 it's not know I keep saying 320 this is our John Deere 250 skid steer it's got the same engine that our John Deere 50 65 tractor has it's a little 3 cylinder turbo diesel engine great engine I can't say enough about it this machine has somewhere around 1200 hours on it if you're looking for a good farm machine this thing is nice it's very awesome not a lot of troubles with these there were some electronics troubles and that's why the gauge cluster says it only has 300 hours but we figured out by looking back through John Deere's records and if you go look at a John Deere piece of machinery you can call John Deere give them the VIN number and they'll go through the records in most cases with you so check that out check with your local dealer on that but that's what this is this is a six-foot bucket right here it'll haul big oil scoop of gravel and haul about 14 to 18 hundred pounds per scoop so each one of these piles each one of these piles right here this one's a smaller pile the big pile behind it is 14 tons so you do the math it's probably gonna take us 30 trips back and forth back and forth here that's ok we got none to do if we're enjoying the day it's beautiful out here let's get busy [Music] [Applause] [Music] well we think that turned out awesome awesome I just can't even describe it I've only been down here for about yeah 35 minutes something like that and we're all fixed up so I'm gonna drive the dump truck load it up over top of this a bunch and try to pack this gravel in but let's get a little before and now let's get a little bit of after man skinny Bob did a good job man I'm proud of a little skid steer I've got the GoPro attached to the skid steer in like 50 different places so hopefully you guys get some good views thanks a lot for joining me here on the Stoney Ridge farm today guys I hope you enjoyed the video we're just fixing up a little something here down by the creek thought you guys might enjoy watching the equipment and me getting some work done guys thanks a lot again we will be building a cabin over here we'll be building that on the channel so if you're not subscribed jump in pound the like button we're clearing land right now we've got a bunch of stuff going on on the farm it's just a good time here on the Stoney Ridge thanks a lot guys skitty pop good good see you next time [Music] here in sweet that's way supposed to be stone Tyrion Oh
