Willys Jeep Rescue: Popcorn's Frame Gets SANDBLASTED!! RESULTS ARE AWESOME!

Qasr witness hey folks this is Josh Stoney Ridge farmer welcome to the farm vlog today we're gonna be working on the Willys Jeep frame today popcorn the Willis Jeep and you guys were right so I in no way shape form or fashion I'm gonna grind on that thing for hours and hours and hours I'll never ever get it clean so what we've got coming up the road right here is Piedmont dustless blasting so we're gonna show you how the whole of dustless blasting setup works we're gonna work with these guys today and show you something cool so come along on the farm blog today as we use a dustless blasting system to clean up popcorn the Willises Jeep frame you guys were totally right there's no way I'll ever get done doing this with a grinder no way man [Music] alright guys here's what we're working with you guys are Piedmont dustless blasting NC is that right okay you have a website Piedmont dustless blasting NC calm that's us alright cool so the system you have is called a dustless blasting system you saw this on TV is that right and got your own business exactly yeah awesome got interested watching the hot rod shows and Dennis gage got to promoting this things Dennis gauges that guy with the great big mustache on the classic my classic cars yeah I was always curious about the dustless blasting system now we've got the system here we're going to take you around we'll show you how it works we'll talk about the cost we'll put it to work on the Jeep but actually you won't use dustless blasting on the Jeep today you'll use the the dust blasting in other words you won't use the water with the Jeep why is that well being out in the field out here we don't have to use water okay that way we like to use rust inhibitor anything gotcha and make a mess on your tractor guys with the water system we'll use completely dry have to worry about neighbors anything with the dust out here and got nothing poisonous coming off the frame there's awesome so what he told me earlier was the dustless blasting is more over for a guy in a neighborhood say you've gotten old jeep or an old truck or an old car you're restoring and you're in a neighborhood and you need to keep that dust down we're out in the middle of the country so the dust really doesn't matter so much the tractor is probably going to get soaked with us we're gonna fly the drone up in the air and fly it through the dust we'll have a little bit of fun but it's a little more expensive to run the dust list since you have to put in rust inhibitors and stuff like that does the rest in here burial ok for the ones you know we don't use it for the concrete gotcha just using the water with it on concrete keeps the silica down that flies off concrete which causes cancer if you bring the DPI's you know okay gotcha so there are a lot of rules to deal with silica dust and breathing that stuff in and safety first pretty much exact and blasted for a lot of years and breed then a lot of bad stuff so let's get to looking at your equipment real quick this is a 50 horsepower Kohler diesel powered air compressor rotary gonna keep 150 pounds of pressure constant runs through the dryer when you're doing dry you'll keep the moisture out of your so this is an air dryer then we runs through the moisture separator over here which then runs to our pot this holds our glass we use crushed bottle glass recycled crushed up beer bottles because the EPA says don't use sand because of silicon this is 150 gallon water tank a high volume water pump to fill the tank up here when you're doing it wet this is an air-powered water pump which is pretty cool so this is totally self-contained I mean I don't need anything else I don't need a generator or anything else so I can go anywhere long as I've got water and diesel fuel and media we can go anywhere all right so he's got three different blasts tips a hundred foot hose we're gonna hook him up and get him started on the tractor we're gonna get you guys a little time-lapse so we'll show you what goes on how it all goes on over time here we'll show you different sections we'll get you some zoom in close up so we get you some drone shots of the big cloud of dust that's going on we're right out here in the middle of the field this blast media won't hurt a thing in the world it actually will just settle down on the ground in probably two or three weeks the rain will wash it all away or soak down into the soil good soil amendments he just told me that all the iron coming off that jeeps also is gonna be good for the soil we're fixing the soil on the farm with fun stuff can't beat that so we'll get you guys footage of how all this works everything from the media going into the media going out everything how it all works in case you want to get dustless blasting down at your place we screen everything before it goes in no look mark large particles coming through the hose not gonna hold it the colors on the bottle glass through the green and the Browns just crushed up bottle like beer bottles and stuff recycled so we're helping out the environment up so these guys are after my own heart they made sure that they didn't get crushed up regular bottles they only got crushed up beer bottles for a popcorn project now let's talk about how we've got popcorn all set up he's on the pallet forks up here and I basically took two C clamps go to C clamps and securely attached them so that we could slide them back and forth on the pallet force here to get all the little parts so in other words I've got to get up underneath here really good and then they have to move it wherever the pallet forks were so we'll shake it around move it around a little bit if they didn't have a way to put it up in the air like this it'd basically be forced to roll it around or put it on a rotisserie so this is our makeshift rotisserie [Music] [Applause] [Music] holy crap look at this unbelievable guys can you believe that's the same Jeep frame it cleaned up so super well and we get you down here get you a close-up so when he did with the sandblaster I could never do I did a portion of the Jeep bumper here it took me about 45 minutes he got into every tiny nook and cranny and when he got done he blew it off real good and he blew it out with the leaf blower I'm basically gonna take this thing and bounce around the farm a little bit with it I'm gonna leave those c-clamps in place and try to shake out all the sand we possibly can then we're gonna take this chassis we're gonna soak it down with eastwood rust encapsulator and then we're gonna hit it with some chassis black so we're gonna soak everything down while we're in here sandblasting we found a little bit of what I call Mickey Mouse and Mickey Mouse means some broken welds right in here not so bad we already knew about a broken weld right there and you can see right in here where some poor welding was done right through the chassis there and there's one more little spot that suspect will show you so as we get down here right under there that u-bolt guys what do you think should I replace that u-boat or should we leave it you know that's all original well then I can't say thank you enough so tell me about what you charge and what's a typical charge for something like this well usually I try to charge by the hour it's 300 for the first hour 200 for each consecutive hour after that so the more intricate a job like this where you've got to get all these little nooks and crannies it might take you a little bit longer would it take about three hours here three hours awesome I say if you get a piece like this this rusted that bad get your grinder your wire wheels and you sandpaper call me in about an hour that's exactly that's exactly what we did there is no way we would have done this there's no way we could have made that look like that that's just SuperDuper awesome saved us a bunch of time probably a bunch of effort and probably in the long run it really saved us
