Battle of the Mowers!! Ventrac goes up against The John Deere With Woods Mower!

I'm gonna tell you a secret I crashed the drone stick around to the end of the video and you're gonna see it Wow hey there folks this is Josh Stoney Ridge farmer it is a beautiful sunny day here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains welcome to my farm we're going to compare some tractors today we're going to be cutting fields so the story goes we've been cutting about 80 acres of grass here over the past couple weeks and basically we just pick a five or ten accor tract of grass and we get out and we mow it every day for the last probably two weeks we've been out mowing today I wanted to do a comparison video between the ventrac with the tough cut 6 foot brush cutting mower and the conventional tractor the 5065 it's a 65 horsepower john deere 63 horsepower to the pto with a very nice woods BB 72 X an extreme duty bush hog I call them bush hog that's what we call them brush cutter or mowing deck however you want to call it we're going to compare the two we're going to show you the different cuts and I'm going to give you my opinion and let you develop your own opinion of these two mowers so let's have some fun here on the farm all right [Music] ain't [Music] afraid you're not already subscribed there's just so much fun stuff going on here on the farm first we're going to go and we're going to look at the John Deere 5065 this is the first tractor we ever purchased here on the farm and it's a great tractor I've totally enjoyed it it's fun to ride and it's a workhorse I think in our total package of the tractor the brush hog everything that we bought with the tractor we bought a grapple we bought the loader everything here you see I think we paid around $36,000 for it this is a toolbox that I made custom out of an ammo can I'll post a link down there to the size ammo can and I just painted it john deere green so it would match the tractor pretty cool stuff it came with a small toolbox like this guy and that just wasn't going to cut the mustard so this thing is all full of good tools pins and stuff like that that you always need on your tractor now today we've got the pallet forks on the tractor because we're expecting a load of goodies to come in on a tractor trailer a little bit later today so I'll probably have to break away from mowing let's go back here and we'll look at the mowing deck so this is an extreme Duty woods BB 72x it's called a woods brush bull it's a brush cutting heavy duty heavy duty mower it will cut big saplings down we bought this heavy heavy duty more because when we first bought our land all this was covered in trees and saplings it's now covered in grass pretty proud of that this is the tough cut and this is the ventrac if you haven't seen the ventrac it is basically a little articulating tractor it has a twenty four point eight horsepower Kubota diesel engine in it a great little workhorse and it's what we've used to mow 90% of our fields this year this tough cut is a beast it's a six foot brush cutting mower it has three blades on it or a heavy duty blade it's not a lawn mower blade it is an absolute beast this thing is comfortable it rides smooth and it articulates in the center which is very important and you'll learn why here in just a minute I'm gonna show you what we've already cut we ran through here yesterday and did our first two cuts that's what the bush hog that's what the tough cut bush hog tough cut I ran over each section twice guys this is a friend that you haven't seen on the channel yet this is my buddy Jason Jason and I went to high school together Jason was involved in a car wreck when you were 16 is that right 16 years old is in his Toyota pickup truck me and Jason used to cruise together we used to hang together back in the day one big scary thing when I was in high school Jason lost his leg in high school and he's been out without his right leg for left leg been without his left leg since he was 16 years old one awesome thing about the ventrac is if you have a disability like this all you have to do is grab that handle to drive so with a big tractor like this Jason would have a very difficult time operating it because the brake pedal and the clutch pedal you have to have legs you have to have legs so he would have to cross his legs over back and forth to use a standard tractor like this can he do it yeah is it easier to run this you darn right [Music] [Applause] [Music] and we'll let y'all in on a little secret I crashed the drone right slap into those pallet forks I don't know why the safety mechanisms on the drone just don't work for me anyway what do you guys think that drone footage was pretty cool you get a perspective of what's going on I'm gonna get you a little closer look at the grass I know in my heart which mower cuts the best and it ain't that 5065 it's actually the little ventrac now if you think about it we got a tractor that 65 horsepower that's probably burning somewhere in the neighborhood of twice the amount of fuel that that little Kubota diesel is burning the 50 65 is a machine it's a hard-working machine it's a great farm tracker I've been riding that John Deere tractor for the last four years I've been using that woods mower I love that woods more I've been using the ventrac for one season I am absolutely impressed and I am absolutely in love this is the same tractor if you'll remember that we were cutting brush like this big with the same machine the same cutter the same brushed cutter it's called a tough cut that we were cutting huge thick brush with we also did the same thing with the woods but this is a 24 horsepower machine versus a sixty five horsepower machine I'm burning half the fuel and I'm getting a better cut clearly I'm getting a better cut the difference in the ventrac cut you see the ventrac has spread the grass out a little bit better if you look over here we're crossing over into the cut with the woods now the woods is as low as I can possibly set it so is the ventrac the woods leaves a stripe of grass versus the ventrac broadcasting it out onto the land a little bit better we're mowing 80 acres almost of pasture land here this year and the ventrac has tackled almost every bit of it this is the only section that we're gonna mow with the woods brush cutter and we're not going to mow any more with that this year we're gonna mow strictly with the ventrac because it's just that awesome when you run over the grass with the tires on the mower prior to mowing here's what you get you get grass that is not down but not moaned down underneath is grass that's still tall grass over here with the ventrac it broadcast it out you could rake it up for hay you could actually rake this up for hay and it is a smooth nice even and consistent cut to all the naysayers that say that's not a farm tractor I'm telling you right now that is a bush hog in little beast guys I hope you've enjoyed this comparison between the ventrac and my John Deere 5065 tractor we picked this thing up on a one-year lease I totally feel like we're gonna buy it after the one year this thing is a little farm beast when we get to the end of a row that's where the ventrac really shines if you watch that video you can see it takes twice maybe three times as long for that tractor to turn around at the end of the row as it does for the ventrac to just pull up go and go
