Who Is Haydn in New Zealand?

so hey we're here at the Orgill Show in Orlando Florida and I've got a special guest with me so we're just here checking out some new products and stuff in you know I run into people here and there and I ran into a gentleman here that I wanted to bring here to the paint life move to interview and I have Trevor Hayden with me today and I'm gonna talk to Trevor here and he's gonna give you a little bit about his story so Trevor hate and you are the owner of Haden Brush Company is the exact title of it it is but I see you know it is hide in there because we explained before we are evolving to build their business around other products as well as just brush we're and rollers yeah it's and so it's more than just brushes different yeah so yeah you sell all kinds of stuff yeah we don't so why don't you give me just a little bit of history I think I was talking to you just a little bit earlier about yeah um your background you I mean you didn't just start in the brush industry but you you're already school to do something else I think in time I was studying to be a lawyer and I went to university stayed here for about three or four months and then for that contact that rheumatic fever so it put me on my back for about four months yeah and prior to that I was working in a part-time situation making had us sign running cosmetic brushes right my brother was 10 years older than I am he was he was obviously involved with me but he had other other commitments like children so I actually took it over but long story cut short the law degree not being the brightest cookie Under the Sun I decided that I was going to do at a special son ring instead of suddenly doing those sorts of brushes so artists brushes so we're talking like just like um oil paintings and stuff yeah watercolors pure sable brushes we know that most expensive brushes please disabled yeah all all substitutes because everything else is coming to Z important you know the food's manufactures in southern hemisphere with it's for the product Wow so you do have an interesting accent so you're from New Zealand cross to Christchurch New Zealand and were you born and raised there no I wasn't you're not no I was born in the UK okay my parents came over to New Zealand I was only about two months old Oh okay oh I am a keyword so you are a key I'm so proud of it and if you haven't been to New Zealand New Zealand is an absolutely amazing country I was actually there I believe it was 1983 I was there wrestling on it with the US wrestling team so I got to travel all over New Zealand got to stay every week with a different family for the entire summer it was our summer your guyses winner an absolute amazing experience what happened if you haven't been to New Zealand you need to go and so we need your money it's this little tiny island down under is just like somewhere we're better starting good know this incredible story you started just making some little artist brushes and now you've been manufacturing brushes for how long 48 years 48 years yes so your brushes you've been a manufacturing and selling them and you're under the brand item hayden brushes that 18y de and say hey noe I know yeah I chair one deep in oh there we go so the end so you but it's spun off into more than just brushes it now you guys sell like a whole lot of stuff right we go about twelve to fourteen hundred different products yeah different ranges and there we have rollers and brushes all in all this painting decorating we're probably we are probably the biggest supplier in New Zealand to the painting decorating industry and how we are in the street for all sorts of things we represent rust-oleum in New Zealand we roots in depth which are household names in the sky obviously but we also have logistics operations so we can actually do party logistics partner problem and distributed ocean dies it and so forth yeah so it's a bit bigger than just yeah honey decorating so in but you sell your products more than just in New Zealand right East we do so what other countries you selling we sell to Australia or through I said all the islands in the Pacific we have actually exported product to the United States before now right and Germany in Germany oh yeah so Hayden's like seem like like all over the place I'd like to know more so you're trying to bring your brushes and sell your brushes United but here we are your from Down Under you got painting you sell painting the manufacturing tools and products and stuff you're here in or goal and so you flew over here to the US yes and why why you why did I find you here okay we come to most of the type of shows of this throughout the world we feel that with any let me try to visit as many as we possibly can because we're looking for new products new technology plus effect we export so we catch up with the people who we export to and obviously trying to grow that side of the business but there's always something to look at to something maybe new that could be interesting for us and it's meeting people like yourself and our existing suppliers and any X in export market people yeah so you heard the show now you've been cruise around a few days is there anything that you saw that you thought was pretty exciting that you might want to take there are there are a few products we've looked at and as I said we're gonna probably saturate the area today tomorrow right yesterday we came and had a quick look around but does anything stand out anything yeah there is I would say that actually to be quite honest the staying here and that's all hate live so we have a few products that will hopefully be selling to you guys and I think you sell the brush baggies yes we do you sell the brush baggies in New Zealand yeah yeah so I think from my understanding in New Zealand Haden you guys pretty much rural New Zealand we encompass a fear boner that you'll be doing yeah when we have a week we had competitions believe me like everyone else does but we are probably the largest supplier for painting decorating products to the to the retail trade to the trade either culprits or whatever but we we would have a 90 percent success rate and all in retail you know I know you guys you guys have been manufacturing paintbrushes for a long time and I think my audience I think I've discussed and talked to my audience a little bit it's sometime I'm working on my paintbrush guys it's gonna come out and I know these guys have been making paintbrushes for a whole long time so we've been we've had discussions with you guys possibly about making our paintbrush so you guys make quality products I think you know you're pretty proud of it'll be rushed at you yeah and you make for this white Kris off notice if you haven't got the patient for the business give up yeah and a lot of who said you want to keep doing it and they and then after they say well you still got the patient well that's it you haven't got the patient yeah got the interest yeah so what do you want to continue doing it you you know this is kind of cool because I went out to dinner with you and two of your employees I learned last night they're not just your employees they I think they some of those their son in laws so they've married your daughters yeah thanks very much guys and so and we're like I think we're like brothers I mean you know we're just young guys but I got three daughters and you got to know what is yeah and they're in the business too and they're in your daughter's innovation this is truly a family-owned business it's absolutely amazing that you guys have built this business I've been running it for 48 years a family-owned operation it's great I've got a great time talking to you guys I'm excited to be able to test and use some of your product you guys have set me a table we looked at your brushes I'm excited to look into that you know and I really hope to come down to New Zealand again someday
