What happens here

Filmtek abrasives are unique because they are made from plastic (film) rather than paper, making them virtually tear-proof and much more durable. Additionally, they are 'stearated' abrasives. This means they have a lubricant coating that prevents the sandpaper from 'loading up' with dust and paint particles. Loading occurs when sanding debris clogs the abrasive surface, reducing its effectiveness and generating heat. This heat can cause latex coatings to ball up and create a messy finish. The stearation helps keep the sandpaper cool, maintain its cutting efficiency, and prolong its life. This feature significantly improves the quality of the sanded surface and extends the life of the abrasive.
