What Sander Do I Use? My Sanding System and the must have abrasives for Cabinet Jobs.
What happens here
The selection of abrasives is crucial for effective cabinet refinishing. The system utilizes various Filmtek abrasives and Ekasilk sponges, which are all part of the Uneeda product line. Filmtek, being a plastic-backed abrasive, is significantly more durable than traditional paper sandpaper, preventing tearing and lasting up to 30 times longer. It is ideal for flat surfaces where a very flat finish is desired. For profiled or contoured edges, the presenter recommends Ekasilk foam sponges. These come in different thicknesses, such as 5mm (very fine) and 10mm (1/2 inch, superfine), and are flexible enough to conform to rounded or beveled edges without damaging the profile. It's emphasized that thicker sponges (like 10mm) are not suitable for flat surfaces when aiming to eliminate grain, as they will conform to the grain rather than flattening it.
