hey folks it's Josh Turner rich farmer welcome to the farm vlog today we've got a little bit of real-life farm situation going on here this morning my wife went up to the goat pen and one of the baby goats was hung up in our fence now we have an electric mesh fence but we don't leave the power on because the goats already know it's dangerous to stay away from it but one of our baby goats got hung up in the fence we're gonna show you the baby goat we're gonna show you what's going on and we've got to call and get some advice from Daniel at arms family homestead I'll post a link to his page right here Daniel knows a whole lot more about goats than I do we've got I think 15 goats now we have 4 babies this is one of the babies that was born from one of our white goats so come on along today I've got a dehydrated little baby goat that we've got to get recuperated come on guys we'll show you what's going on [Music] so folks wrapped up in this towel right here we've got the baby goat okay we've been keeping towels in the dryer and keeping them nice and warm I don't have a heat blanket to put them on but it's a little male baby goat and he's he's up in here he's tucked in here when we found him he was curled up in the fence and he was covered with mud and he was obviously really really cold really cold to the touch he's starting to warm up a little bit and we're giving him some sugar water now I'm gonna have Daniel with arms family homestead call me here in just a minute and we'll talk to him and get some advice from him on what he thinks he's been through this scenario before he's dehydrated he's hypothermic and I can't get him to the vet's office because the vet's office is closed today so we've got to do something here and we'll get a little sugar water right now so what you guys need to know is when we first found him he was not breathing very well good enough sugar water here you go buddy hello hey Daniel I was wondering I got a goat here that my wife found this morning we went up to check and feed the goats this morning and he was hung up in our little electric fence the electric fence it wasn't running hang on one second I'm giving him a little drop of sugar water he's swallowing now there he goes there he goes a little buddy so he's starting to come around a little bit oh my goodness he's starting to yeah yeah he's coming on around the sugar waters doing the trick but I wondered if you knew any way to to quickly rehydrate a goat you know if you'd had this problem before if you never had a little baby goat get dehydrated like this and what you would do you have a lot more goat experience than I do I don't know if it was all night or just this morning but he did have some mud on him it wasn't any dry mud on him so to me that says he probably was yeah well it was in this in the 50s luckily it wasn't that cold yeah he's about two maybe three weeks old he was our second born the other way yeah well baby goat or tender little animals for for a few months when they're little cuz there's just very little body weight and they get that internal temperature down pretty low and they can go downhill pretty quick they're just not like a like a cow i mean i've talked to farmers around here who's that he's making calves born in the snow and be frozen to the ground then they get him warmed up to okay a little goat so small I get the internal tutor down but anyways if you can get him warmed up you know with your electric blanket or heating pad or one towels or something would really help yeah as far as dehydration I use a couple things not maybe not just specifically for dehydration but the one thing that might help I use and I've talked about it on one of my videos a while back is a man it's the brand I use is called manipro it's goat electrolytes it's just a powder that you mix in with their water and then you could use if you if you if you know how to - but goat that would probably be the best way put a tube gun in their stomach but you could also do it with a syringe and just kind of give them a little bit at a time what's that what's that electrolyte powder called again the brand is a man of pro but it's just on the packages it just says goat electrolytes okay it's an electrolyte supplement for goats says it supports hydration and optimal fluid balance it's for showers and stuff when they have diarrhea yeah but if it's dehydrated I mean same things like us when we get sick we need electrolytes to get rehydrated and get that energy back up yeah yeah well he's actually coming on around a little bit now he's got a little little flinch in his eyes and he as soon as you called the phone rang and he must have known that I had Daniel the arms family homestead on here it was time to heal up so he's actually trying to stand up right now oh my goodness Wow I never would have thought he would have tried to stand up from almost just non-responsive to coming around pretty quick well it's been two hours we got him home and we washed him up and we cleaned him up and started hitting him with warm blankets and he's got like a crick in his neck and I sure hope his neck isn't broken I can see where he got hung up in the fence on his neck but he's coming on around we've made some noise there when when you call it out that was pretty amazing that he made some noise so I'm getting a little I took a little bit of powdered sugar and mix it with some warm water and he's swallowing which is hard to believe I don't know I wanna I guess I'm gonna get off here man and go on to tractor supply and try to get some electrolyte powder and see if we can get him back to life we'll have to keep you posted man well you know a little bit more than I do that's for sure so you've been raising goats for what how many years you've been raising good we started with bottle baby goats my wife brought two of them home in a little bitty diaper box I think my daughter was about 18 months old something like that yeah so probably close to eight years your head goats I think we're on three years and we haven't had any health problems at all so we've been really really lucky with baby goats last year I had lost quite a few and it's just kind of a learning process it's just like anything else is just like growing a garden you start off small and learn your way through it once you think you got it all figured out then you have a bad well cool man thanks a lot for let me know what you think and we'll see if we can nurse this little guy back together all right buddy thank you folks you heard the first time the goat made any noise in the last two hours or so when Daniel called that goat made that rat and that tried to get up it's actually tried to get up I think it needs to stay still stay put but maybe we'll come back around and we want to get it back up to its mama as fast as we can we'll give them a few more hours here we'll keep giving them fluids we're going to go retractors supply and mix in some electrolytes with their fluid and we're just giving them probably two or three cc's of sugar water right now at a time but it's really starting to help them come along so folks I need a little bit of prayer for you I need you to be thinking about this little baby goat hopefully it'll do good I'll keep you posted on everything okay so thanks a lot for joining me here on the Stoney Ridge farm I just thought I'd give you an update on the real farm and really what's going on here so got a little sick baby goat and we got a tin to him make sure he survives if he doesn't survive then it'll be a sad day on the farm but you know it's part of farming it's just part of life life and death so thanks a lot for joining me here guys click that like button subscribe to the channel if you're new to the channel and be sure you click the little bell down there it'll notify you when we post a new video about the baby goat here and hopefully he pulls through thanks a lot see you next time [Applause] [Music] Wow [Applause] roll around them you can do it folks in case you don't know I am an intensive-care registered nurse okay I know a little bit about how to care for really sick people which applies a whole lot to a really sick animals so hopefully we can get him hydrated get him back right and get him back up to his mama thanks a lot for watching today there you go buddy yeah you go get you better
