Prepare Differential Housing and Remove Old Axle Tubes

WE ARE BACK! one ton build!
What happens here
The first phase of the project involves preparing the existing axle's differential housing for modification. This begins by securely mounting the differential housing onto a robust work stand or fabrication jig to ensure stability and precise alignment throughout the process. The old, original axle tubes are then systematically removed from the differential housing. This is typically achieved by carefully cutting them away using a reciprocating saw, often referred to as a Sawzall, or an angle grinder with a cutting wheel. Extreme caution must be exercised during this step to avoid damaging the differential housing, as it will be reused as the core component of the new custom axle.
Goal: Separate the differential housing from the old axle tubes
Tools and materials
- Differential Housing — The central component that will be modified with new axle tubes. Appears to be from an automotive axle assembly
- Reciprocating Saw Milwaukee — Cutting through the steel axle tubes to remove them from the differential housing
- Safety Glasses — Protecting the eyes from metal shavings, sparks, and debris generated during cutting
- Work Gloves — Protecting hands from sharp metal edges, heat, and vibration
