What happens here
This DIY project demonstrates how to fix a leaky hot water side of a two-handle Aquasource/Project Source kitchen faucet by replacing its stem, which includes replacing the internal seat and spring. The project also highlights common issues encountered during plumbing repairs, such as stubborn shut-off valves.

(6,925 characters)Hey folks, that fix it guy here. So I had a friend send me a picture of a kitchen faucet ask me if I could help her fix a leak on the hot side. So I did some research, went to the store, picked up the part and now today we're going to be installing a stem for an project source, aquasource kitchen faucet. So come along, let's get to fixing. All right, here's what we're looking at. This is a two-handle aquasource kitchen faucet, right? And the hot side you can see is bad. It barely shuts off in one position. So we're going to get this fixed. This is where our culprit is. We need to shut the water off and then we need to pop this apart. All right, so this is another thing we're going to have to deal with here at some point is you see this valve, like look at where that is right on this drain line. You couldn't put one of these knobs on here if you wanted to. That's why it's all marred up right there is people been taking channel locks to it and tightening it down and then also packing nut. There's a little bit loose. This is a project for another day for them. Give that packing just a little bit of a snug and then we'll take our little 426 channel locks and we're just going to have to get right here and turn this off. Lover man, I hate doing this to a valve. Okay, so I shut that valve off and this is still leaking a bit. So I had to go down and actually shut the water here off. Okay, let's just see if we can get another crank or two on this valve right here. Maybe I didn't shut it off good enough. Maybe we can open something downstairs and get this to stop. So we opened up the faucet downstairs to get that little drip to stop up here and now we're actually going to be able to change this out. No problem. So I didn't have the proper size Allen wrench for this and I ended up going to my Lotherman. My Lotherman has it and yep. Get this bad boy out. Just get it loose and then we're able to pop that off. Take our 6-1 screwdriver. Pop this off. Now to get it in here we're going to want to loosen this nut, grab an adjustable jaw. Okay, pop that out. I said this just went in here like that. It's kind of eerie sounding in it. You're going to still want an Allen wrench and you're going to want to have to get down in here but you can see I can see already that the seat is actually gone. So the fact that this was moving all weird and you turn it to the back and it turned back on. We're actually going to change this out as well but really what I was talking about is inside is going to be a spring and a seat and well you can only actually see the spring down in there right now. So this is just worn away. Probably just changing this out. If this piece hadn't actually still been turning all wonky then we could have just left this. Change this out and been good to go but we're going to go ahead since we bought the whole thing. We're going to pop it out and it needs it anyway. So we're going to go ahead and we're going to use an Allen wrench and we're actually going to fish out that that did not work. All right. Oh interesting. It actually wasn't there. It just looked like it wasn't. Now it was there. I'm wrong sometimes. Kind of can't see. It's hard. It was shiny. It looked like that was the case but not really. So we got these hooked up on here and then well that could have worked out a little bit better. Let's just go one at a time here. Get that spring on there and then just kind of shift that seat around. Now it's good and it has a little more resistance on this whereas the other one I think was sitting pretty flat. It might have just been that the spring was a little wore out. I don't know but I just know it wasn't working. Right? Okay. So with the little cartridge. So with this replacement cartridge that I bought, right? It's my Danco and it's a 3S-9HC hot water or cold water. It says it's for delta glacier bay or aquasource faucets. Right? And this is a pro source slash aquasource I guess. I'm assuming they're the same thing. Lose brand. Right? And I'm just going to orientate these to where they're the same. Right? So if you look down on that, this is the way I pulled it out and this is the way it's going to go back in. And before we put it back in, I'm just going to take a little bit of plumbers grease and stick it around that o-ring. Just get that nice and rubied up. They feel like they want to cross thread. Just make sure you go backwards, right? Start and reverse. Get it to catch and then hook it up like this. Make sure this is nice and snug. If not, it's going to leak on you. So before we put the handle back on, we're actually going to go, we're going to turn the water on. And we'll just check this for any kind of drip, all right? Awesome. Take this piece right here. It actually gives the the model and the item number, which I'm actually really surprised and that's awesome that it is. It says don't remove. So we're not going to. She probably could have called them and we could have got some free parts. They do say limited lifetime warranty on their boxes, so they very well could do that. Tighten that up. These bad boys are coming so in handy, man. It's so nice to have really almost a whole kit of Allen wrenches and a Leatherman. And Okay, and so it's shut off now, but we don't get a lot of hot water on this side. So now we have a different problem, right? This hot water shutoff valve underneath the sink, this angle stop. Well, one, you can't actually get a good shutoff or a thing on it without putting pliers to it because it's a drain line. But then two, I actually think that the seal that shuts this off is gone and it's probably blocking this valve and not allowing the water to come to the faucet the way that it should. Or it's went up to my faucet and it's completely clogged it. We might have to take that apart again, but they've got hot water for right now. We've stopped the drip and this is a video for another day. Okay, folks. So you can tell we've got a lot more work coming up here with that angle stop not working. I feel like the seal has broken off in there and it's probably stopping that up. I'm not positive just a guess, but we're going to know taking it apart and getting hooked up at some point for. Okay, stay tuned. I really hope you guys are enjoying the videos. If you guys need tools or a part for this, if you're dealing with an AquaSource or a ProSource faucet, I'll put a link in the description box. It's also the same for certain models of Delta stuff. You know, really this job was very easy. You could have done it with just a a screwdriver, like a 6-1 screwdriver, the right Allen wrenches and an adjustable jaw wrench. It could have went very smooth, but as usual, it's plumbing and it didn't. All right, I really hope you folks are enjoying the channel. Please subscribe, click that like button. We'd love to have you keep coming back. Thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon.
