What happens here
After addressing the brake pads, re-install the brake calipers onto the vehicle. Lubricate the sliding surfaces with caliper grease to ensure smooth operation. Once the calipers are installed, proceed to address the rear differential. Apply a bead of RTV sealant along the mating surface of the differential housing to ensure a leak-proof seal for the new differential cover. Apply a generous amount of sealant, as indicated by the mechanic, “just because we can.” Install the new differential cover onto the housing, aligning the bolt holes. Loosely hand-tighten all the bolts to secure the cover in place, but do not fully tighten yet. This allows the RTV sealant to 'skin over' or partially cure before final torquing. It is recommended to wait approximately 15 minutes before fully tightening the bolts to prevent squeezing out all the wet sealant, which could lead to leaks.
Goal: Secure brake calipers and install a new, sealed rear differential cover.
