Setting Up the Brooder Environment
At 19:10 in
This was just NASTY! Something NEW is Hatching on the Farm today!
What happens here
After cleaning, line the brooder coop with a generous layer of pine shavings (not cedar, as cedar can be harmful). Lay down enough shavings to provide insulation and absorb moisture. Install a heat lamp positioned to create a warm area where chicks can regulate their temperature. Ensure the waterer is elevated on cinder blocks to prevent litter contamination and that the feeder is placed where chicks can easily access it. A small jar-style waterer with rocks inside will prevent drowning, and a small, narrow feeder with chick starter is appropriate for their size. Install an Anonabox security camera to monitor the chicks remotely.
Goal: Create a warm, safe, and accessible brooder for the new chicks.
