ribit ribit got a new home for [Music] you bolt broke which holds my quick attach in place so I got to get a new bolt just like that one put that spring back in put it back together and keep going all right guys welcome to Today's Show we have been working pretty hard at the compound dir monkey compound here for a while and it shows outside of the yard I mean it's it's bad let me show you what we got we got equipment all over we've got brushed trees falling down stuff I just haven't been able to get to you know you work on everybody else's before you get to your own so while we're cleaning that up there's something that I really wanted to talk to you about but I wanted to show you what we're going to be doing so before we dive into the real topic of today's video Let's just finish showing you what we got going on look at I mean this Isa complete chaos this needs to be organized it needs to be cleaned up and and uh fixed up up so but I got a flat tire we'll get that aired up but this bad boy right here she does all my loader tires no air compressors nothing just carry this out and she'll fill up a loader Tire they got it up to 55 lbs and about 4 minutes as I was checking oil yeah these things just get better all right good morning good evening good afternoon whatever time it may be for you if you're new to the channel my name is Stan genetic and I'm a lifelong contractor and uh I've run multiple Crews for about 30 35 years and I've done tens of millions of dollars worth of work I can't even keep track of how many commercial and residential projects I've done and I don't say that to brag I say that to qualify myself for about what I'm going to tell you next of all the millions upon millions of dollars of jobs I've done it's very very very rarely do I ever have even a single customer complaint or have a customer that will refuse to pay me now in fact I can name off the top of my head two times that it's happened in 35 years and that's not to brag that's to tell you that I figured out a way to keep that from happening and I'm going to share that with you today so that you can wash rinse and repeat and do the exact same thing because what I do is not proprietary to me it's just logical and when you go wait a minute that actually works I never thought of it that way and it's so simple so easy and so hyper effective that why wouldn't you do it and that's what I'm going to share with you in today's video I'm also going to share with you the time that I can think of off the top of my head where a Commercial contractor decided he did not want to pay me and it was probably a 600 linear foot wall 10t tall Boulder wall out in uh Prior Lake Minnesota or something like that big one for uh development and uh he was going to try to give me the screw jop and I'm going to tell you how I handled that as well but we got a lot going on today cuz we're cleaning that yard at the same time we're going to do all this so sit back grab your popcorn and I hope you guys enjoy the ride well I guess we're already on to plan B since that went spring bolt broke which holds my quick attach in place so I got to get a new bolt just like that one put that spring back in put it back together and keep going want to see how I fix that Frankie yeah I don't like to fix anything I grew up with a wrench in my hand my dad was a crop duster and he didn't have a new plane he had a 1966 egg cat that's a bip plane and that's what he would spray Fields with and was my job to keep the planes running he also had a pony a little tiny aircraft so we had a couple airplanes and I was always wrenching on them old beat up planes you know doing the best we could to keep things flowing so anytime there's a repair now I hand it off to Frankie but that's not why you're here the first thing we want to touch base with is man let's talk about that contractor that SC tried to screw me on that big retaining wall project um he refused to pay me and so what I did was I leaned him now if you are leaning the process of leaning back in the day when I was doing it is you always had to give a pre- notice if you didn't prean them you may not be able to lean them so double check that in your area and a pretty notice is just hey I have the right or reserve the right to do this look for the legal language but then what you can do is it doesn't have to be anything special prel lean means you got to do it before the job begins you can slap that son of a duck right on your initial propos you can slap that son of a duck on all of your initial offers to your customer just to make sure you have it but the with the process of aen if you're not familiar with it means that I get first dibs on that project when T it comes time to get paid and it's not a good thing to put on especially especially onto a commercial site the reason why it's really not good to put on a commercial site in your general contractor's eyes because it makes your general contractor look bad and that's fine if you are a subcontractor protect yourself because the general contractor does everything they can to protect themselves so if you're not familiar with commercial work there's typically an architect or an engineer that the owner hires then they then they hire a general contractor who brings in all of the subcontractors so there's this layering effect now as a subcontractor if the general decides you're not worth paying you need to protect yourself and that's where a lean comes in place and that makes the GC look bad to the owner because the owner doesn't really deal with the subcontractors guys like you and I the owner deals with the GC so when all of a sudden this lean on the owner's property comes up they get salty with the GC and want to know what the heck is going on and I leaned that property lean and mean and then I left town and boy was that GC pissed because that lean stayed on that project the entire time and when I came back in he was threatening to sue me because his reputation was getting shot with the owner and I didn't care and I says you know what pay up protect yourself you guys if you are a subcontractor put the steps in place to pay up now now sometimes on Commercial sites it doesn't make a difference how good of work you do there are really bad gc's there's great gc's don't get me wrong GC stands for general contractor but I found more bad gc's than I found great ones or even good ones now on residential I learned a trick that I'm going to share with you in just a couple moments about how to almost always have your customers have zero problem paying you want to pay you it's such a cool little trick we'll get into that in a moment [Music] [Applause] when I put this on I didn't notice that I didn't have it hooked correctly into the quick attach let's see how this goes [Music] yeah that's not good it's filled with ground beads as soon as I put that hitch in there they just started swarming out the actual hitch on my boss trailer has a nest of ground bees in hey you need blocking to block the tires doesn't roll back any yeah possibly we'll throw a coup yeah we'll throw just a couple blocks over there and just leave them for okay I'll take yeah okay [Music] now commercial sites are typically larger in scale and they take longer to do so you're dealing with less people but there's also this emotional Detachment from the job because the GC doesn't really care about the project when I say doesn't care they usually don't have any personal vested interest interest in it like a residential customer has so a residential customer when you go out to their site that's their baby that's their house that's their home that may be their project that's something they're excited about it's a completely different mind frame from residential to commercial um but what I'm going to share with you here in just a few moments can benefit on commercial but not nearly as effectively as it does on residential but let's take a look at what we going got going on with this car now in a moment you're going to hear me call this car a charger and the reason I keep saying charger is cuz I had a charger right before I had this Challenger and that shows you how much I ended up driving this thing but take a look at this thing anybody want to buy a car two of them for sale I think I'm going to sell this dirt monkey charger this one's nasty is it too Nast and a bunch of babies but through the mouth oh Mouse mice mice yeah where did you find them there's a nest in there and there's a nest underneath the back seat oh yeah there's a nest there and there's one underneath the back seats that's why I didn't put back jeez I got to maybe I should just rent storage for them they can't store them out here anymore Frankie I know yeah but where am I going to put them up north there's even more you go P yeah but there's even more mice in there yeah well I mean you're going to have mice and rent those spots too they're just going to get in there maybe not as bad as it would be up North but I'm just saying just something you don't want to ever forget to pay your rent because then they they keep them yeah I don't want them keeping this this car well the Mustang to yeah no thinking I'm just going to sell them I think this is a 2014 Charger and I think the Mustang is a 24 as well I think they're both the same year and then we rebuilt them right you added a lot to the Mustang added a lot to this one you did a we did a lift we put truck tires on the back we turned it into a Mad Max Rhino line in the top of it put a light bar on the top of it did the tires this one sit a while cuz it's nasty even to get try to clean it yet I'm going use the shop rack and stuff and clean up yeah go for it but I'll just leave it parked here I love them rims though those are my favorite rims of all time look like that big old lug that one chain looks like a chain sprocket and then that NE holding it on yeah that is cool I don't know why but I'd buy them for a truck any day now I started this video by telling you that I've done millions of dollars of work and ran multiple Crews on average for a long period of time I ran between four and five Crews full-time year round and there was one thing that absolutely stood out to me as very odd right out of the get-go one of my Crews never seem to have any complaints at all and that's Timmy's crew you guys probably know who Timmy is he's one of my he's my business partner now but back in the day when he was just a job foreman he hardly ever got any job complaints like never I mean it was unre real and I'm like what the heck is going on and I would look at Timmy's work and his work would be almost always Flawless but that doesn't make any difference cuz I had other guys that had work every bit as good as Timmy's but they would still get people that no matter what you just can't make some people happy so I'm looking going thinking what the heck is Timmy doing and Timmy was just being Timmy but Timmy does something different Timmy absolutely cares not just about the job but about the people he works with so every chance he got he would connect with that customer he just wants that reassurance that I'm doing something that's going to make you feel good and what I would pretty quickly realize was that connection was the pivotal thing that would make your customers happy and be joyous to pay you and in fact what I pretty soon realized is that when Timmy would leave a site the customers would be bummed out I had customers that would come to me and say yeah you know I I didn't really think much of it when you guys came but I I kind of miss you guys when you're gone and I call it the 20 minute Rule and that's when I implemented It Off from based off from Timmy and Timmy I would tell hey spend 20 minutes a day every day just talking to the customer that's it now for Timmy I'd have to say you know can you keep that down to 20 minutes cuz he would spend as much time as a customer wanted just to make sure that they felt good other guys I would have to say try to spend 20 minutes making sure that the customer and it doesn't have to be about the job don't go out and talk about the job cuz the customer has other things going on in their life attempt to connect with the customer on anything that the customer is interested in Maya Angelou said it best a person will forget what you did a person will forget what you said but a person will never forget how you made them feel so if you can make a customer feel like they are absolutely important to you they're going to appreciate that and they're going to have a very hard time picking apart your work if one of your kids does something for you and maybe it's not even the best thing possible maybe one of your kids and you can just see see that they tried to do something good maybe they tried maybe one of your kids tried to make you breakfast in bed and they burnt the toast and the orange juice is spilt and the eggs are running are you going to look at them and go hey you need to do better are you going to be appreciative of that of your kid at least attempting to do this thing for you think of your customers like that just make sure they know that you are doing the absolute best you possibly can and when your customers feel really comfortable about you as a person and how much effort you're putting into their project they're going to forgive a lot of the other things that happen and I'm not saying to do mediocre work at best I'm saying to do the best you possibly can but also to do the best you can to connect with that customer on a deeper level make them feel and understand that your their project is important to them and that's what's going to make it easy to collect from customers I hope that makes sense I know I did a lot of talking in this video we got another one coming up down the pipeline and uh I hope you guys enjoyed these projects that we do I put a lot of effort into these for you guys so and I do see you guys commenting and helping on the algorithm so thank you for that and God bless you guys and whatever you're working on I hope it just turns out awesome and I hope this information has helped you out in some way shape or form catch you guys on another one
