First Bee Package Introduction
At 7:36 in
The easy way to install a package of honey bees in a new hive. Poacher on the farm!! Trespassing!
What happens here
The presenter demonstrates the bee introduction process. He places the bee package on top of the brood box. He then removes the outer plastic cover from the bee package and carefully takes out the queen cage, which contains a queen, worker bees, and "queen candy." Using a wood screw, he gently removes the cork from one end of the queen cage, allowing bees to access the candy and eventually release the queen. He removes the sugar water feeder can from the bee package. He then shakes the majority of the worker bees from the package directly into the open space within the hive, ensuring they fall onto the frames. The queen cage is placed between the frames, and the remaining frames are replaced to close the top of the hive.
Goal: Safely introduce the first package of honey bees into a prepared hive.
